Anyone else not get a employer letter?

Why don't you just get a LOR from your employer?

I would recommend getting one especially for the AJD instead of sending in your app earlier if you're set on the program.

Just a few questions:

1. Looks like the application only accepts one LoR. Is this correct or am I missing something?
2. Should I fill in the optional "career goals" section?
3. Their resume/PS uploads do not allow PDFs. Has this resulted in a wonky format for anyone?

1. You should be able to select more when you go to "Add Recommenders" through LSAC. Can't remember if the app just asks for one name but if so, then give the name of whichever recommender is your #1.

2. Yes, NU cares about that, esp given their focus on applicants with experience.

3. No, just attach .doc.

Thanks.

I'm planning on applying ED since NU is my top choice. I know I am outside of the range for the scholarship, so I expect to be rolled into the RD pool. Will this provide an admissions bump? Is there any way this would hurt my chances? I can make the on-campus interview deadline.

The data tells no clear story and I've read mixed opinions on TLS regarding this.

Checking in! Quick question about interviews- I indicated on my app that I would like an off-campus interview. Do I have to do anything to make this happen, or is the school going to contact me? My App Status check says incomplete even though they acknowledge that they have everything received except for the optional stuff, and I noticed a note on the top of the page about interviews.

You'll receive an email within about 3 weeks after submitting your application instructing you to log into a portal which will give you the contact info of your interviewer. You'll be responsible for setting up the interview (day/time/location) based on what works for both of you, especially the interviewer.

I wonder if this indicates that apps are down even further than NU anticipated?

I probably should have posted here much earlier but honestly I do not check TLS as aggressively as a 1l as I did as an 0l.
But anyway, I got lots of wonderful advice on this site from fantastic (now) 2l's and am more than willing to help the future NU generation out as well.
PM any questions you guys might have about the school, application process, whatever. Gl with all your applications and all that.

Edit- I should mention I did not interview, so don't ask me about that part of the process.

Here's a question: how do the facts that Chicago is mad expensive and I will be mad broke affect the upsides of living in such an awesome place? I love everything I know about NU as a school and it's one of the best schools I've got a solid shot at, but I'm scared of living in a high-priced metro with near zero funds. It's one of the bigger factors making me hope for a school like UVA, in a city where rent will be half as much, everything's cheaper, etc.

How much should COL factor into my equation? Are most of the upsides of Chicago muted by the fact that I won't be able to afford them?

Hasnt really been my experience. There's ton of stuff to do that's just not that expensive. Just last week I went and saw TJ and Dave do improv for $5. It wasn't even really five dollars because micdiddy bought the ticket and i bought him a root beer. Which reminds me, dude i still owe you like 1.37 probably.

And as far as city living goes Chicago is far less expensive than NY, DC Boston, or San Francisco. Not just marginally but substantially cheaper. Can you go do everything that Chicago has to offer all of the time? No you're poor and in law school. Can you do some of it a decent amount of time? Definitely. Until November. The day after Halloween your soul will begin to evaporate so that you coudn't enjoy anything even if you could afford the time or money it entails. It's a blast.

Most people live in Streeterville but you can live north of school and save a ton of money and the commute is really not so bad. But I live in Lakeview/Boystown so I'm biased.

tl;dr: Cost and location should definitely be a factor in your decision but i don think the COL of NU vs. UVA should be, not really. YMMV

 Shocked to find out that Boston is substantially more expensive than Chicago. idk why, I guess I just think of Boston as a small-town because of where I've spent my time there vs. my time in Chicago. Yeah I've got less fear of missing out for myself, since I'm planning on spending most of my time working on school stuff (at least as a 1L) anyways, than my SO (who will probably make more working in chicago than va anyways). Also, I might wind up in a position that renders this moot, like if NU offers me $$ and uva doesn't, so it's fairly presumptive, I just wanted to get some input on this. Thanks for your perspective and any other inputs from chicago/NU folks are welcome :)

COL definitely factors in the equation in the sense that all costs should be considered, not just tuition.
But really as Feral said you can easily find a place not in Streeterville that's way more manageable and your loans will cover everything. Lots of people go to law school having literally <$1,000 to their name and just let Uncle Sam foot the bill.
Also, there's really not much expensive extra-curricular stuff you will be missing out on. NU is used to poor folk moving here to go school so you will definitely not be one-of-a-kind in these concerns

And Feral, interest is running on that $1.37...

I'm still an applicant but being from Michigan, I've spent a fair amount of time in Chicago - and it's cold. I obviously don't know where you're from but I'm used to some pretty bitterly cold weather and I'm still always a bit shocked at the temperature/wind. Definitely plan to bring a heavy duty coat!!

SoCal  Regardless, NU is my top choice and I'd brave some bitter weather to be there.

Brutal! Well, its not like you're in North Dakota or something - it's manageable. If you get in/decide to go, do some shopping on outdoorsy websites during the summer, you'll be able to get great deals on stuff like winter coats, boots, etc etc that you'll need throughout the winter. And at least you'll get a nice break from the cold if you travel home for the holidays!!

Look at it this way...the cold winters provide more incentive for staying inside and studying for 5-6 months of the year :)

More data out today regarding this here. Seems like EDing NU might provide a very substantial boost, but the table that applies specifically to splitters is still being put together, to be released later today. All thanks go to cotiger and elterrible for the awesome work putting together and making statistics understandable for us humanities majors :D
