Where are people considering living, if moving to the Bay Area? I used to live in Chinatown way back when, but I'm thinking the East Bay might be a better option for me now. Unfortunately, my exposure to the East Bay is pretty limited.

Thanks, Moon.
It's a starting point for negotiations right now.
Still alive in the Berkeley game. Hard to say how much longer that will last, though I'll hold on to the bitter end. Still alive @ SLS FWIW, but the former is more likely than the latter IMO.
What are you thinking about Hastings, at this point?

I'm open to the possibility, even with the notoriously low financial aid offerings. Name rep for Hastings in the bay is still a real thing, regardless of their ranking. I'll have a better idea after visiting campus and weighing my options more thoroughly.

Careful with the Hastings praise or we might get hiima3L or Lasers up in here for some smack talk.

Dear Hastings Admissions/Financial Aid officer,
While I am seriously considering attending your school you could easily seal the deal with some official swag. SLS sent their admitted students moleskine notebooks and I think you could easily match that offer. Awaiting my embossed Hastings day-planner,
Sincerely,
Dingo

Maybe you'll get something at the ASW?

Does anyone have a date for ASW? My acceptance email didn't say anything about it, I think.

Comes in your mail packet. March 22nd and April 5th (same days as SCU I believe).Dingo Starr wrote:Does anyone have a date for ASW? My acceptance email didn't say anything about it, I think.

Any scholly/fin aid info in the packet? I'm wrapping up Need Access now and I already filed FAFSA.

Nope. You're looking at roughly a two week wait from time of submission of FAFSA/Need Access, from what they've said to others.Dingo Starr wrote:Any scholly/fin aid info in the packet? I'm wrapping up Need Access now and I already filed FAFSA.

Looking at employment, totally I'd buy it. Though I'm personally not a fan of USNWR rankings (I like ATL)Moonlight wrote:I agree, the name rep for Hastings in the bay is still a very legit thing. Did anybody write a Why Hastings statement? Asking for a friend.

No, but I tied in my narrative with specific examples from Hastings.blackbirdfly wrote:Did anybody write a Why Hastings statement? Asking for a friend.

Moonlight, I'm glad you mentioned this because it's a claim I should better understand. How is it measured? Is it based on the number of practicing alumni in the Bay Area relative to other alumni? The number of clerkships appointed? Or is it less tangible than that?Moonlight wrote:I agree, the name rep for Hastings in the bay is still a very legit thing. I don't doubt the integrity of your claim--living in Seattle, I see Hastings' reach all the way up here--I merely want to know how it's determined, especially since it seems like such a controversial subject.

Are these people in any way involved in the legal community? I ask because I am seriously considering attending Hastings; the vehement opposition teeming on these boards is very real.Moonlight wrote:So here's how I viewed it. From the least tangible idea, I basically hear people speak of Hastings a lot and I see people react impressed at the idea of getting into Hastings or recommend going to Hastings.follywood wrote:Moonlight, I'm glad you mentioned this because it's a claim I should better understand. From a more factual analysis, I'm thinking that San Francisco is a better place to build a life than Houston (no offense to people out in Houston, but that's my Bay Area bias) Plus there are a ton of notable alumni in the Bay Area and a lot of large firms with partners who were Hastings grads including Morrison & Foerster. I think clerkships wise Hastings does okay but not as strong as Berkeley or Stanford naturally.
Also very real is the reduction in 2013 1L class size vs. 2012, addressing a common complaint among Hastings students and responding to the reality of disappointing statistics. If we attended, I wonder how this might affect us, graduating in one of the school's smallest classes in recent history?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
