Anyone at a t14 is going to be in a better place than someone who is not. That said, I turned down higher ranked schools (20's and 30's) because of Cardozo's location. We the City Bar Association building is walking distance and we have firms coming to OCI and prestigious speakers coming to the school all the time in part because of our proximity to their offices. Also we tend to get lumped into NYU networking events since their law school is only a few blocks away. I generally don't have time to go to all the networking events we get emails about, if that gives you a better idea.JayJones78 wrote:Thank you. Do you think the fact you're in NYC gives you more networking abilities than those who go to remote schools? (Even t14s)? Do lawyers in the city even care about 1/2Ls?hob12 wrote:JayJones78 wrote:
How hard would you it is to be in the top 15% ?
Well first just to clarify, just because your are top of the class does not mean that you are guaranteed big law (if you have no interviewing skills its not going to happen) or that if you are not top of the class that you have no shot, it can happen, especially if you are good at networking.
There is really no way to answer your question. Anywhere you go it will be hard to make top grades, sometimes it comes down to luck. Obviously working really hard to master the material is your best bet. Never assume you will be at the top of your class. Everyone should go into law school with the assumption you will be somewhere in the middle, no matter how smart you think you are.

I got the package yesterday. Apparently I'm a Gates Scholar too. This makes this interesting.

In via voice mail with 10k/yr. Probably not going though since I'm also in at my current undergrad school, GSU. It has almost exact same ranking and tuition is only like $12K/yr for residents. Thoughts?
Oh for those who are interested:
LSAT 160
LSAC GPA 3.29 (4.24 degree)
Does being Jewish and gay count as URM?

Still waiting on decision from UGA and Emory. Currently wait listed at Fordham. I live down here in Atlanta, but am from New York and was thinking about moving back. Hence the split locations.JayJones78 wrote:Congrats. What are your other options?MrLawManRyan wrote:In via voice mail with 10k/yr. Re: Cardozo c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
For those of you who have been admitted - congratulations to you, by the way - did you have a status update of "Decision Rendered and Sent" before receiving the call? I'm also wondering if there is anyone who received their decision by snail mail or e-mail but not via phone call?
The reason I ask is because I just got the above-referenced status change and have not received a phone call or e-mail. Furthermore, the website states, "Offers of admission are sent to applicants via regular US mail. All other decisions are sent via e-mail."
So I guess I'm wondering, if a decision has been "rendered and sent," and I haven't received an e-mail, what is it exactly I should be expecting?
If anyone could shed some light on this, that would be nice. If not, I guess I'll just be patient and wait and see what happens.

I think they have been all over the place. I got a phone call yesterday, but status didn't change until today. Someone else previously said that their status changed, and then got a call later on.OscarVeal wrote:For those of you who have been admitted - congratulations to you, by the way - did you have a status update of "Decision Rendered and Sent" before receiving the call? Re: Cardozo c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
Hello everybody, congratulations to all ye who have been accepted and especially to the Harlan and Gates scholarship award winners. I have everything updated on my lsn profile (http://lawschoolnumbers.com/BetterThanChlamydia) but my application went complete on 1/3 and I got my call on 1/22. I was awarded 25k per year. It's really exciting. I have some serious reservations about Dozo (never mind the fact that I'm still waiting on a few applications), so I really want to visit the school.
Does anybody want to tell me why I shouldn't worry about the library being closed on Friday night and Saturday?
Also....how does one negotiate a higher scholarship award?

It doesn't state on your LSN but I'm assuming you're applying as a URM? I also assume you're living in/around NYC since you're only applying to NYC/NYC area schools.ArizonaSecrets wrote:Hello everybody, congratulations to all ye who have been accepted and especially to the Harlan and Gates scholarship award winners. From your list unless you're getting accepted at higher ranked schools I'd most definitely choose cardozo.

Nope--non-URM and I am from NYC but I haven't lived there since high school, which is almost 8 years ago. I live in Philadelphia but I wanted to come back. My family still lives near Hofstra and St. John's, however.
If I end up going to any school in the city I'll want to live near the school. A commute would from Nassau would suck (as would moving back "home.") I'm the kind of person who needs to go somewhere to study. I figured the law library would be that place but since the library is closed during half of the weekend I'd like to hear how people manage around that.
I really like Cardozo and I didn't want to come off as ripping the school, so I'm sorry if I offended anyone. My reservations are mostly financial (during and after school) so I want to negotiate a higher scholarship (anything will help) and I want a shot at Big Law. I don't think it's worth paying sticker for Fordham, though. Also, I'm not so sure going to Fordham (if I were accepted) would present a better opportunity for Big Law employment.

Question - I hate to belabor this point I made yesterday, but did anyone here get into Cardozo but did not receive a call? Also, for those of you who received calls, did anyone not receive merit aid? Just wondering if the issue of merit aid is the difference between a call and just a mailer.

Probably a dumb question, but wanted to throw it out there. For those of you starting in may - did you apply for full-time and get put in the may start? I've heard that can happen and just want to get an idea of potential admission outcomes.
FYI I went complete 1/17 - still waiting. Anxiously!
Edit: Should have gone back to page 5 for this one...duh...
