I do, but it's a very small sample size and the numbers are all over the place, so I don't think any LSAT/GPA analysis would matter. I can tell you that 5 URMs have gotten off the WL, according to LSN, in the past 2 years. Those numbers are obviously higher in reality, as not all URM WL applicants use LSN.masked kavana wrote:Do you have the URM numbers by any chance? Sorry to ask!

Gotcha. Thanks for the info. Think I'm just grasping at straws to think I might have an opportunity to get in.Doorkeeper wrote:I do, but it's a very small sample size and the numbers are all over the place, so I don't think any LSAT/GPA analysis would matter. Thanks for the new stats!
As a >75% LSAT extreme splitter...im not encouraged. I had noticed the same thing that you pointed out. At least on LSN, there were very few high LSAT people waitlisted in the last 3 years (including this year), and not many got in (whereas many more high GPA people got in).

Since (to my understanding) they generally pull people from the WL to loosely match profiles of admitted students who turn down HLS for another option - maybe the trend tends to be that those who get H and turn it down are more often really high GPA types, rather than high LSAT types.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2012
Yep, this would also match what Stanford weights more (high GPA), and so the people accepted to H and go to S have high GPAs, which need to be filled with the WL.Mista Bojangles wrote:Pretty much all of this...yepyepyep wrote:Thanks for the new stats!

Then again, maybe there are only a few high LSATers in the pool as it is, and they've accepted a large percentage, and so there just arent many of us that are left in the pool. Last year, it didnt look like there were any on LSN above 175 (I may be wrong...can't remember). So...maybe its just that there are so few of us that they look at us favorably. Thats at least the positive spin. I don't need to go through the negative spin though, for the sake of our sanity

Mr Bojangles, your GPA's probably high enough to get into one of the dropped out GPA spots though. Lots of people around there got in the past couple years.

Do you guys think today's dings are any indication of high yield (and few spots for us WLers)? I hope not!

I was afraid of that too...but I think they knew when to set the cutoff for WLs by percentage of the class, and they reached it. So I don't think they regret this large of a WL as a result. But that being said, there's still going to be a fraction of us that get nothing. I just don't think that went up or down based on today...only meant that they didn't need more than us.

I actually don't think Harvard's yield is going to be higher than it was last year. I think they were just deciding the last round of WL/dings which they usually do. At this point they should have a good estimate of their yield and should start to make the WL-KB1s soon.

They know you're in China. I don't think you need to be too concerned.plurilingue wrote:Hmm, I want to mail some stuff, including an updated resume and personal statement to HLS, but I live in Beijing. Is it worth the obscene fee for expedited delivery versus the six weeks it might take using the regular Chinese mail? I figure I'll be released from the WL before they even get it the latter way, and yet I sense that not showing interest after being WLed is a bad move for someone with marginal numbers.
This being said, unless expedited can get it there in under a week, I would just do regular.

Can't you call them and ask to make an exception for you and print an email, adding it to your file?plurilingue wrote:Hmm, I want to mail some stuff, including an updated resume and personal statement to HLS, but I live in Beijing. Also, LSN only has 103 people who've been WL this year. This is smaller than the past three years (128, 141, 125).
I don't know if less people are using LSN, or if Harvard is going with a smaller WL, or what.

LSN user numbers have been trending down for awhile, since 2007 or something I think. Hard to say since it's an imperfect sample to begin with.Doorkeeper wrote:Also, LSN only has 103 people who've been WL this year. This is smaller than the past three years (128, 141, 125).

Wonderful news! This could only get better if Yale pulls 20 people from the WL and Harvard has to open the WL floodgates!Doorkeeper wrote:Also, LSN only has 103 people who've been WL this year. This is smaller than the past three years (128, 141, 125).

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2012
PS - its interesting that LSN shows a 20-30% WL decrease because TLS is showing the same trend. Last year's TLS WL spreadsheet has about 100 people; this year's has about 60 so far and I estimate another 20 people or so have reported WLs but not filled out the form.
So this year TLS WLs = ~80, last year = ~100. And there's a 20% drop, similar to LSN's trend.

On LSN, is it possible that people just stop updating after a certain point?

Re LSN: This totally happens, but it's something that occurs every year, so it probably doesn't explain this year's decrease.icedflames wrote:I keep forgetting to get on that WL spreadsheet -_-marcellus wrote:PS - its interesting that LSN shows a 20-30% WL decrease because TLS is showing the same trend. As per Nelson's point, I went back to LSN and there definitely are less people reporting this year than last. That probably helps to explain some of the decrease in numbers.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2012
I'm not sure a smaller waitlist is a good thing necessarily. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just saying that they probably have an idea based on who has matriculated how many wait-listed students they want in order to keep the percentage the same. A smaller contingent means they are expecting fewer accept-withdrawals. Maybe they're making the size of their class smaller this year than previous years, and so fewer spots will open up, so their waitlisted numbers will be fewer. I don't know.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
