I can't speak to the similarities between NYC and Chi as I'm also a non-urban Midwesterner, but I love the area around NYU. I don't even like NYC (too big for me), but the area around NYU feels like a neighborhood with lots of things to do in a relatively safe area. It's the easiest part of NYC to love in my opinion.

You haven't spent a lot of time in NY, have you?Sammy841 wrote:I can't speak to the similarities between NYC and Chi as I'm also a non-urban Midwesterner, but I love the area around NYU. Re: NYU Waitlist Class of 2015
I am still on WL and haven't received a gauging interest call. I visited the admissions office in early May. I've sent 3 letters of continuing interest since March. Anyone care to guess about my chances?
1. NYU thinks I'm a stalker and there is 0% chance that they will admit me. (Depressed but Realistic me.)
2. NYU may have another round of interest calls after June 15 and there's still a chance I could get a call then. (Hopeful me.)
3. NYU knows how much I love them and is going to admit me without even calling to gauge my interest! (Delusional me.)
I'm deposited at UVA from whose waitlist I was admitted.

Lol. You would probably still get a call to gauge interest even with your letters bc they don't know when your circumstances might change. As for 2, there's definitely waitlist movement at other schools and I can think of at least two people currently deposited at NYU who will likely be jumping ship for Harvard any day now so there's certainly reason to believe in future calls.user_france wrote:I am still on WL and haven't received a gauging interest call. Seems to me, all the recent non-URM WL admits at NYU these past 3 days have been LSAT >= 173. Is this you?

Are the living cost estimates laid out by NYU accurate? NU estimates that it'd cost 80k this upcoming year, but NYU estimates about 5k less and that doesn't seem right. How hard is it live within budget?

So what does that mean or look like in terms of daily living? And do you mean 12 months or 9 months? Gotta live far off campus?birdlaw117 wrote:Not at all difficult IMO.thelawyler wrote:Are the living cost estimates laid out by NYU accurate? I am a bit concerned of running out of money and I do not have any savings or parents to fall back on.

Yeah, your issue would be 1L summer. But if you really want to save $ live in bk or something, cook a lot instead of going out, etc. If you can leave even a couple k under budget during the school year you'll be fine over the summer I would think.thelawyler wrote:So what does that mean or look like in terms of daily living? Just remember that a lot of people are in your boat. It's definitely quite possible.

I would think the estimates are overestimates, right? Because US news rewards expenditures per student.thelawyler wrote:Are the living cost estimates laid out by NYU accurate? Nah, cost of living is not an expenditure that they can count as it is not coming out of their accounts but it is literally coming out of our own pockets.jim-green wrote:I would think the estimates are overestimates, right? It just says Dean's Scholarship. No mention of whether it was merit or need based. I have a very low income, so it could have been either, or a combination if the two.Mr. Somebody wrote:That's just awesome..... was that need based?

So I'm guessing they did not mention this at all when they called you initially? Was this on the letter? Now I'm super anxious about getting my letter LOL.JamMasterJ wrote:It just says Dean's Scholarship. No mention of whether it was merit or need based. Congrats guys! Jam, I, along with many others on this site, have been rooting for you this cycle. I'd say that 62.5K from NYU is a pretty happy ending!

nope, it was in an email from financial aid. I actually never spoke with anyone on the acceptance call. It went to my voicemail. I still haven't gotten the letter yet. I expect it to come today or tomorrow. NY is usually about 2 days away by mailthelawyler wrote:So I'm guessing they did not mention this at all when they called you initially? Was this on the letter?
