You should be rethinking law school in general. You already have what amounts to a mortgage-worth of educational debt and the legal profession is a gamble right now. Taking out $120,000 to attend what I'm assuming was a private university was a poor decision. All said, nearing the $200,000+ mark, PLUS interest, is just insane. Its not worth it.ford2city wrote:Do you have any solid advice? Should I just take a year off and then reapply to schools next year? I cannot shake the feeling that I am throwing away my future because of financial pressures and my parents whispering into my ear telling me to go to this school. When I told my dad I wanted to pay sticker price and go to Maryland he just made this disappointed sound on the phone. They keep telling me this is my choice but then they keep pushing me into Camden. I go along with it because ultimately they cosign my loans and are in this debt trap with me but it is so stressful. I have no idea what to do and every time I try to discuss with them they just tell me it is my choice and my life but then subtlety push me towards Camden.
Is going to Camden really that bad? Am I screwing myself over by settling for this school? Bare in my mind I am already $120,000 in debt of my undergraduate degree and even with the stipend and work study I am look at another $60,000-70,000 going to Camden. I need some serious advice ASAP.
To be fair, too many people on these boards place all of their emphasis on the school and the ranking. Yes, both are important. However, the kind of person you are makes a difference as well. IMHO, if you fall flat on your face out of Rutgers-Camden, you would have fallen flat on your face out of Rutgers-Newark or Maryland. If you're an asshole, you're an asshole. If you're an awkward introvert, you're an awkward introvert. It doesn't matter what law school you graduate from, you'll probably struggle to find decent work.
