What kind of tech upgrades will they be doing?

Not entirely sure. I know they're improving the wifi in-building, because it's been...well, it's been awful at times.CPM723 wrote:What kind of tech upgrades will they be doing?
It would be great if they added some new outlets in the classrooms, but that's not likely to happen.

Re: Missouri Class of 2015
To upgrade the classrooms would be wicked expensive. There are a few in each room, but no one is allowed to use them during finals. It honestly hasn't really been an issue, so long as you have a spare battery for your laptop. My computer has only died once during class, and that's because I forgot to charge it from the day before. During finals, I think I only saw two instances where someone had to switch from taking exam on computer to bluebook. One of those was because his computer completely stopped working and not because of battery issue. If it's a real concern, just get a computer with a long battery life - mine gets upwards of 9 hours, even when connected to the internet.CPM723 wrote:Why no outlets?Ford Prefect wrote:Not entirely sure. Re: Missouri Class of 2015
Avoided this thread for a bit, I have been in St. Louis for the holidays and did some short intern things.
Upgrades...Ford hit it pretty well. It would be capitol intensive, and Mizzou runs lean and mean financially. The way the building is designed it would just be difficult to simple run power strips. A lot of structural changes would have to be made. Unfortunately, the building was built just a bit before the use of laptops was something that was clearly going to dominate. I think at this point, they figure the battery technology is just going to catch up anyway. I think they are probably right...really didnt see THAT many people have to battery swap. I suspect that number gets smaller each semester.
Earlier posts of mine indicated that I would update on whether I felt my rather loose "law school shouldnt consume your life here" approach was working. Midterms indicated it was ok. Final grades are in, I am pretty dad-gum happy. I did pretty good across the board and *very* good in a couple. Which, ironically, is making me rethink the strategy because I cant help but go "wow...if I actually tried a bit harder I might have REALLY kicked some doors down." So next semester I am modifying the strategy...instead of avoiding campus like the plague (I avoided campus like the plague unless I was in class, and frankly missed a lot of classes). New plan is to designate hours like a job...something like 8-4:30pm...and avoid bringing ANYTHING home. I figure being home was great, but reading casebooks with kids running around the house like a heard of elephants probably wasn't the best quality time at home for me or for them. Plus they got a kinect for christmas and dangit I am a little too tempted to play with them...=)
I will update if this works better or worse...sounds good, but I am high enough in the class (estimated) that I have room to fail here too. Plus I think EVERYONE is doing this kind of after-action analysis and will come back stronger next semester.

Does Mizzou negotiate scholarships?

From what I've heard, Mizzou gives very little scholarship money in the first place because their tuition is so low. It can't hurt to try, but I wouldn't count on much.ADks wrote:Does Mizzou negotiate scholarships?

This is correct. The scholarships you can potentially get, though, go a long way. I'm paying barely more per year for Mizzou law than I did at my private undergrad in the late '90s. Which is nice.punkyg0608 wrote:From what I've heard, Mizzou gives very little scholarship money in the first place because their tuition is so low. Visiting tomorrow, definitely going to make checking out the tech limitations a priority...

It really isn't that bad. Just make sure you have a newer computer with a reasonable battery life. The issue is only in classrooms, and really only comes up if you have a battery that gets less than 4 hours of life or you forgot to charge up before class. There are outlets aplenty in the library. What time is your visit?checkster wrote:Visiting tomorrow, definitely going to make checking out the tech limitations a priority...

Re: Missouri Class of 2015
Yeah, I enjoyed that class. What professor is that?
The school was alright, I'm finishing undergrad at Truman and grew up a Mizzou fan, so I knew the campus pretty well already. Not the best facilities I've visited, but not bad. The lack of outlets in the classrooms still baffles me. But overall I had a good visit. My problem is I've gotten into schools ranked significantly higher, but I don't know that I can turn down the huge difference that in-state tuition makes...

That was Prof. Litton. He's fantastic. Both times I visited I sat in on his class. I feel pretty lucky to have gotten him this semester.
I completely understand the issue of higher rank v. lower tuition. It's a tough call but you'll certainly make the right one. If you have any other questions about the school, feel free to ask me here in the thread or send me a message.

According to their e-mail late last week, scholarship information will be sent out this week. Does anyone know how they typically notify scholarship recipients? (mail vs email)
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
