I'm working on my Michigan essays and I had a quick question. I've followed this thread and I think everyone has decided that Essay 7 is the traditional diversity statement, however, as it is worded, it seems to be a little more open ended than this. I was thinking of writing about my experience working in nonprofits and how that will be a valuable experience to "enrich the quality and breadth of the intellectual life of our community." I'm interested in public interest law and trying to incorporate this throughout the application and this question is a great place to expand more on my experience.

What do you think? Is this a valid interpretation of this essay prompt:

How might your perspectives and experiences enrich the quality and breadth of the intellectual life of our community or enhance the legal profession

I'd absolutely write it. I wouldn't even worry about listing the specific optional essay you are addressing.

I haven't scoured the app yet, but for optional essays we shouldn't indicate which topic we've picked? I probably wouldn't have anyways unless it's mentioned, but I hadn't thought about that possibility before.

I haven't scoured the app yet, but for optional essays we shouldn't indicate which topic we've picked? I probably wouldn't have anyways unless it's mentioned, but I hadn't thought about that possibility before.

We'll see how the app looks. It seems like a few of the questions in the past sort of ran together, and this person's idea might fit more than one.

Whyyyy do I not look into these things before I put down a deposit? If I want to ruin my lungs as a way to destress from ruining my good credit, who is anyone else on the planet to tell me I can't?

Me too. But once I get my biglaw job at EIW, I'll have some fun. It's okay, I'll be top 5% so my not-being-on-LR isn't a killer.

And be by myself and just talking about how discriminatory they are to smokers? I think Dean Z would rescind my admission with a handwritten note: "may God have mercy on your soul."

I'll probably start in a few months when the first round of admits gets in.

This, plus it's made it my #2 choice, behind NYU (I know I won't get into Columbia). I wasn't going to apply to UM, now I think I really, really like it.

And I'm just doing Why M.

I was not kidding and now I am relieved. So thank you.
I mean, I didn't think they'd hire the hall monitors Kentucky has going around handing people pamphlets with snide remarks, but I'm overly sensitive about stuff, like when someone walks past me and does an exaggerated waving their hand in front of their face and coughing thing. Having someone point out one of those signs and do a "tsk tsk" would exponentially increase my stress levels.
Which are already noticeably high if someone on the internet is telling me to calm down.

Michigan has recognized my "obvious commitment to academic excellence." Who knew?

Also got the personalized note that my econ degree will be a great foundation for a JD. I'm sure plenty of others saw an identical note, but it's still pretty cool.

Maybe I'm ahead of the game here, but has anyone noticed that the Mich app does not allow you 'attach' more than one essay in the supplemental essays section? If anyone has noticed this, is there a fix? I guess I could just combine the word files of two of my essays, but it seems like this is just a glitch that hopefully can/will be fixed.

Same note for me. Although generic I appreciate the effort it takes to hand sign a couple hundred letters.
