Let us know how it is! I'm going to visit Pitt over the weekend. Sometime during the holidays I'm going down to visit W&M.

11/01 - Received
11/08 - Complete

Do they really wait until March for most applicants? The graph says some decisions were handed out way earlier.

That's really quick! They said they want a paper copy from LSAC so it may take 2-3 weeks or something like that. I hope my status goes complete as quickly as this!

Guess not. The first accepts announced on TLS last cycle were first week of November. I've been thinking: "today is the day" for about the last week. Oh well. All we can do is wait.

They haven't sent them out because they have a different admissions schedule. It is NOT rolling admissions. Expect to keep waiting.

I think by "not rolling" William and Mary means that they don't make decisions on people based on when they applied but rather on their own terms- perhaps the strength of the applicant. People will definitely be admitted before March/April.

i got an email from W&M saying it's not a rolling admission school, then another email afterwards saying they follow a 'modified rolling admission' system. what does that even mean?

On LSN looks like they typically (over the past few years) have started making decisions in the second half of November and early December....damn

It looks like what they mean by "modified rolling admissions" is they do not reject or wait-list people on a rolling basis. The accept strong applicants early, but instead of immediately denying or wait-listing anyone they just hold onto the applications with no decisions until late in the cycle.

+1

I just visited W&M today. Their Assistant Dean of Admissions confirmed this. I got to meet with her, and she remembered me from the LA Law Fair! It was totally worth it to talk to the out of state law schools where you could actually meet their admissions people and have them remember you. The CA schools were way crowded and I didn't even bother going to their tables seeing as I had talked to them before at UCI.

By the way, the law building is gorgeous!!! It is what I would imagine a law school building should look like. All the desks for the offices are wood, there's computer plugs for every desk in the classrooms, and there's even a rare book room in their library with John Marshall's old books. I love the history surrounding it and there's plenty of pictures of John Marshall and George Wythe all over the building.

This visit puts W&M at the top or near the top of my wish list for law school. I love the sound of their Legal Skills program too - very comprehensive and definitely sounded more interesting than UNC's.

Explain what? It looks like you made that graph yourself. It doesn't even come close to adding up. First, W&M received almost 5,000 applications last year. Second, Pretty sure they denied more than 19 people. Third, how many people have you heard got in, you have a large percentage of your calculations having got in already at this point last year, so then that would lead one to believe this cycle is different than the last.

Wow seriously?

Straight from TLS:
Here are a few caveats and methodological decisions to keep in mind as you interpret these graphs:

1. A glance at the acceptance rates at the schools in question will reveal that most of the graphs are an inaccurate indicator of a candidate's chances of admission. In general, the graphs are skewed towards acceptances. It is possible that applicants are more likely to report a decision date when they are accepted than when they are rejected or waitlisted, or that applicants who spend time analyzing and reporting their own admissions statistics are, on average, more qualified than the typical candidate. The viewer should be aware that a graph's rejection and waitlist humps may be misleadingly low and should take care to look up the school's acceptance rate rather than drawing conclusions about his/her chances of admission based on the graph. For some schools, waitlists far outnumber rejections, indicating that reporting bias may have skewed the data towards waitlists as well as acceptances.
2. No users were double-counted. This means that each WL/admit or WL/reject applicant was part of some initial waitlist batch but is not included in that category on the graph.
3. For decisions that were sent through the postal service rather than through e-mail or status checkers, some applicants reported the decision date as the date when their letters were postmarked, while others reported the date when they received the letter. No attempt was made to standardize these. However, the fact that decision dates are sorted by week rather than by day minimizes the difference between the two.
4. For schools that have part-time programs, no distinction was made between part-time and full-time applications.

Absolutely correct. I received my acceptance on November 19th 2009, yes last year. I had to defer for a year because I'm dealing with some medical issues right now, nothing serious. They accept candidates on a somewhat rolling basis, but don't make final decisions on the maybes until the deadline. Everyone is a maybe until they aren't. The school looks for an eclectic mix of personalities, but still have to deal with the realities of the ranking system. If you have subpar numbers like I did, then you better have some awesome softs. Goodluck to everyone, and for those of you who make it, I'll see you in August...
