Wow, I don't check in for a few hours and see what happens. I don't care too much if people say we are their top choice. My job is to admit you if I think you are a good fit for Illinois and then have a conversation about if it is the best choice for you amongst the schools you are admitted to.
Barbie, I appreciate your attention to detail though and looking out for Illinois.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop regarding the timetable! It's keeping me from obsessively checking my UofI status this week. Come December 3, though...

Dean Pless,
Students who pursue both a JD and MS in Library Science for the sake of a career in law librarianship seem to be in a great position given the quality of both programs at Illinois. However, I am having trouble finding data on placement for students who may have taken this path.
Do you know any students that have pursued careers in law librarianship? If so, any comments on how they're doing and where they found themselves after graduation?
Thanks again for being here to answer our questions and ride out the storm with us over the application cycle.

I really only have anecdotal information on this. The students that I know that have completed the program and sought a job as a law librarian have been able to find a placement that they wanted. It seems split between those in an academic setting and those that go to work for a law firm.chaosnoodlesoup wrote:Dean Pless,

If you email me I will try to dig a little deeper for you and see what kind of hard data I can come up with.

Dean Pless,
First, thank you for this thread and the information it provides. Knowing your schedule for putting applications under review and making decisions has kept me from crashing my computer with incessant status checker refreshing.
Second, what percentage of people who pay the first deposit would you say end up matriculating? I hear a lot about people depositing at multiple schools or eating the deposit cost when they get accepted off a waitlist at another school, and I'm curious as to how much of an impact that has on waitlist movement at Illinois.
Thanks!

Re: Illinois Class of 2014 (With Dean Pless)
Last year 80% of the people that paid the first deposit ended up matriculating. 95% of those that paid the second deposit enrolled. It certainly has an impact on the wait list activity. This year, with our new deposit structure, I am hoping that we will be able to go to the wait list earlier.Bildungsroman wrote:Dean Pless,

Happy December Dean Pless,
Would you be willing to share when the next round of decisions will come out? And perhaps when the submission date cut off will be? And thanks a lot for this thread, it has made my UIUC wait a lot less stressful than for the other schools that I have applied to.

Will my status read "in review" or something to that effect before a decision is received? thanks

Decisions will be out tomorrow by noon. Once those are out I will post the dates for the next round. Those decisions will come out on December 10.

+1 to UIUC and Dean Pless for being so transparent about dates. It's super helpful!Pless wrote:Decisions will be out tomorrow by noon. Once those are out I will post the dates for the next round. Those decisions will come out on December 10.

Re: Illinois Class of 2014 (With Dean Pless)
Illinois is among my top choices. It's probably the biggest reach that I have applied to. I am such an extreme reverse splitter that it's not even funny. I would love to practice in Chicago. They have a vibrant Polish community. Maybe I could meet a nice Polish girl?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
