I'm with you on this. I'm having my recommender send me the letter with his signature across the seal of the envelope, then I'm going to enclose the LOR with my LOCI and send it off to Cambridge directly.

Is anyone doing that self-addressed, stamped postcard thing mentioned in the hold email? Because they won't confirm receipt over the phone for whatever reason.

you could also get delivery confirmation through usps, although this doesn't guarantee that an admissions office worker actually opened and processed what was inside. this was just easier for me. i don't trust my mailman.

I'm finally joining this club. Happy to be here and no longer in limbo...I had been waiting since my JR1 in mid December. Knowing the credentials and acceptances of some of the people in this group makes me feel like I'm in good company.

Yup. At least now we know we won't be hearing until at least mid-Feb.

I wish my recommender would e-mail me back. I have a work lor ready to go, but I feel like the academic will be stronger...and probably more along the lines of what harvard wants, no?

At least one 180 and one 179 have also been held. Both with 3.65+ too.

If it makes you feel any better, a 177, 3.6 HYP UG was straight up rejected.

Were your original recommendations from profs or work people? If they were from profs, the work rec might be better for an update. If they were from work (or a mix), then the academic one is definitely better.

people were speculating, because the app deadline for HLS is Feb 1. soon they'll have the entire applicant pool and should be ready to hand out some decisions

Harvard's application deadline is soft; they won't have the entire applicant pool by then.

He says he doesn't know the issue. His 180 is a retake (from 170) but I can't imagine that's it.

I am trying to figure out when I can expect my hold email. UR 11/30 and not a peep since.
