I have also been in limbo since October. Call me a pessimist but it still seems more likely to me that I am in "meh" land (above 9, below 12) then that I haven't gone through faculty review yet due to a lazy professor. Its hard to believe that any professor would hold on to an app for almost 6 months before scoring it.

I wouldn't be so sure. I can imagine a file taking a bit more than a month for a professor's review, followed by another month or so in Asha's office waiting for the next round. Repeat that for two more professors and you're already at close to six months...

If you're going to SLS, by the way, you need to withdraw from your other schools when you put down your deposit for them. So people waiting for Yale might want to bear that fact in mind.

Check Faye's letter. It appears that you are required to withdraw from everywhere else when you commit to SLS (unlike most schools).

Huh. Interesting. With that approach, I'm surprised that SLS ends up accepting a few people off the waitlist every summer. I always assumed that those summer spots opened up because a few applicants accepted SLS's offer, submitted a deposit, and then withdrew after Yale or Harvard offered them admission off the waitlist. If SLS makes you withdraw upon accepting their offer, then it wouldn't be possible for an SLS admit to hang on to the H and Y waitlists through the summer months.

I wonder if this is the first year that SLS has imposed this condition.

We wouldn't need to invent if we had some sort of sign of what has been going on over the past six months... It would have been nice to at least have a "hold" status or something of the sort.

That would be comical if it wasn't so terrifying.

I actually feel bad for Dean Asha, the only Dean I feel that way about. She gets around 1000 perfect applications for 300 spots. So they lose over 2/3 of what could be a perfect class. No other school is this true about.

well actually they yield 70%+ so they actually extend 250-300 acceptances.

All depends on what sense you use the word 'lose' in. You could either use 'lose' to mean "good applicants they can't offer acceptances to" or "good applicants that don't end up going," which means that they lose some of the people they accept.

It's not his number. He was calling from a friend's phone with a 203 number. Hence his preemption. He's even more invested in this process than I am.

If it was my son I would have probably played a cruel joke ... at least for a min something about "we spilled coffee on your PS so you have to send us another one or just judge you solely on your 250".
