You caught on to that SO quickly!Trinity11 wrote:Barbie wrote:I'm sure with a stunning personality like yours you will stand out in a crowd
He might say the same thing about youWho knows, maybe he saw you at ASW and you didn't know!
Neo- I know, you can still come to the BBQ

Leidice- I think you want to stay at FSU, and even though the double-network would be awesome, it shouldnt be the reason you choose a school. I think you would be happier at FSU, even though I 100% want you to come hang out in Gville with me!

Has anyone started looking for an apartment yet? And does anyone know when we should sign a lease to move in May/ June?

I was just wondering if I'd missed anything useful. Guess not - did FAFSA a long time ago!gatorlizzy28 wrote: I went to the financial aid session. Anything in particular you want to know? I'm so glad I went to the externship session. I wouldn't have had a clue what it was all about.
I think they could have provided all of the materials to us in the admit packet, then even if we didn't go to the session we would have something to peruse.

Aaaahh I do love FSU. But I also know I can make the best out of any situation I end up in. So, if I choose UF, I will learn to like it haha. My top priority now is choosing the place where I feel would provide me the most/best options for a job after graduation, and I feel like my personal preferences for an area or school should be a secondary priority. Hanging with you in Gville would provide some awesome times though, that's for sure!Barbie wrote:Leidice- I think you want to stay at FSU, and even though the double-network would be awesome, it shouldnt be the reason you choose a school. for those looking for apartments. My girl and I came last July and looked at about 30 places trying to find the perfect one for our 4 year stay. I wouldn't be too worried on getting an apt. asap. Four years ago parents were buying condos and selling them once their kids left. Well no one is buying so there is a lot of condos for rent and the prices for rentals went down with the crazy abundance of empty places. I pay $625 total for a 2 bed 1 1/2 bath a mile from campus. Love my landlords and love my place. It isn't super fancy or new, but very comfortable and quiet. Just search around there are deals to be had.
see you at Levin in the fall. I'm definitely going.

This is sort of a general question but do people normally sign year leases and then sublet them if they get summer work or does everyone get 9 or 10 month leases? I think I saw that a lot of places are flexible with lease ranges but wanted to see what everyone else is doing.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to UF as well and am looking at living at the Museum Walk next to the gym

This is a good question. I think most people just sign 12 month leases. The speaker at the externship session made a point of saying that he needed financial aid to cover rent in Gainesville AND where he was working.

My friend has a 9 month lease right now at a nice 2/2 condo she said she found online. There is the chance of not finding summer employment (lets hope this doesnt happen, but just to be safe) so maybe a 12 month would be a good idea, or 9 month with the option to extend? Who knows.Neo wrote:hurricane10 wrote:This is sort of a general question but do people normally sign year leases and then sublet them if they get summer work or does everyone get 9 or 10 month leases? Just a FYI--that's simply not true. Gainesville has the most over-saturated student housing market in the country!Barbie wrote: asap! once you're set I would start looking immediately if you are 100% sure of where you will be. In college towns they fill up SO fast!

Sorry then. My friends told me they always signed months in advance to secure the good ones. Guess there are plenty to go around then. Either way, no point in waiting on looking if you know what you wantGatorStudent wrote:Just a FYI--that's simply not true. Agreed. While you're invariably going to find people who are not friendly, you'll find those people in all walks of life. UF students tend to be very social!mistergoft wrote: Literally never experienced this. No worries! I just wanted all of you to have the correct information. It surprised me when I moved here "way back then" that they overbuilt student housing--especially since UF is trying to decrease enrollment, not increase it! But as you said--if you know what you want, there's no sense waiting.Barbie wrote: Sorry then. My friends told me they always signed months in advance to secure the good ones. Re: U. of Florida 2010-2011 Applicants!!
For all of you guys that are still at no decision reached, I did some digging through last year's forum and found something interesting. Last year during the first week of march, two batches of letters, wait-list and acceptance, were mailed on separate days. By sharing their stats and the days that their letters were mailed, TLSers were able to figure out which batch was which before the letters even arrived. So hopefully, we'll all get some kind of relief soon...
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
