Re: UVA 2010, RD
Seeing all these other splitters get dinged makes me feel a little better about my own rejection. It means it wasn't just me (or just each of you), but that they are just rejecting splitters in general.
Still sucks though, but at least I know it wasn't just me.

I sent the agreement Tuesday by regular mail..I put it in the box around 3:30 so I really don't see how they would have gotten it already; I did send an email saying it was on the way, but noone responsed. Considering there were a lot of RD WLs today, I have a feeling they haven't received it yet.
Will post #s later.
Wait..what?! Ok I emailed back re the ED agreement; had they received it, I really think I would not be on the waitlist right now. Considering I sent an email when I sent it, and noone responded..do you think they'd reconsider my application now instead of making me ride the waitlist?

The only answer to this that anyone here can give is, they won't if you don't ask. Good luck.heathbar88 wrote:Wait..what?! Has the status checker updated at all for people who heard anything back today?
Sorry if this has been answered, I don't see it on the last couple pages though.

Thanks for the info, Van. They do mention in their email that they are trying not to overenroll again. They also say apps are up 10%. Upon further review, I think I'm picking up a subtext here...vanwinkle wrote:The last two years in a row UVA has overenrolled accidentally. They keep shrinking the number of admissions they offer and increasing the number of WLs; the idea the last two years in a row was to underenroll and use the WL to cover the shortfall. Unfortunately for those on the WL, so many people accepted that they still overenrolled anyway. I only heard one or two unconfirmed reports of folks knowing folks that got in off the WL last year and that was it, it was a dead zone the last two years straight.beef wellington wrote:Waitlisted. 171 3.2
I've heard UVA's WL is a polite ding, is this about right?
If they've shrunk their number of offers even further this year, it's possible they might finally manage to underenroll and need people off the WL, but the massive increase in ED acceptances makes me skeptical of that. It sounds like they're managing things very efficiently this year, so WL is probably still a soft ding.

If you really really want to go to UVA, you might try writing a LOCI in which you ask whether submitting an ED form and committing to attending if they accept you will get you in, or if it's too late for that. I don't know how effectively this would be, but its chances of helping are probably at least a little greater than doing nothing at all.beef wellington wrote:Thanks for the info, Van. Some splitters got rejected today, so at least being WL'd you still have some window of opportunity left.

Yield protect. Virginia only admits people in their sweet spot unless the person applies ED, assuming everyone higher will get into better schools. I expect to be waitlisted with a 178/3.78. 176/3.7 is definitely too high for UVA RD.dk8 wrote:wtf. well at least you can go to columbia.lawblahblah wrote:Waitlisted, 176 3.7. I applied in October. My wife really wanted UVA, but I want Columbia, so if I do get into Columbia this makes the decision a lot easier.Dignan wrote:Whoa...this does not bode well for me. I'm glad there's a silver lining for you. Based on past patterns, you have a great shot at Columbia.lawblahblah wrote:I applied in October. I gather you're not a big fan of love? I've seen you give the same advice a few times. Believe it or not, sometimes there are things more important than career prospects. Given that its his wife, I'd say its a big deal. Regardless, in light of the situation I hope that Columbia, or some equally desirable school comes through for him.managamy wrote:Don't let love get in the way of your career prospects.
