Everyone's over here celebrating their JS1s and JS2s (congratulations!!), and I'm over here like "Yeah! I went complete today after 15 days of 'received!'"

Went complete 12/8, no JS1. I feel like I've devolved into checking my email every 15 minutes until 6 p.m., after which I just wait anxiously for tomorrow...

I wonder if there's any meaning behind the size of a JS1 wave? Today's wave seems to have been pretty small, and there were only 3 available days (Jan 27-29th) on the interview scheduler.

Re: Harvard C/O 2019 Applicants
We know all schools claim that, just like they claim that admissions are 'holistic' and not numbers based, but actual admissions results show that it is a very minor factor. The main thing they care about is their ranking, which depends on the actual number and not on the ug school or comparisons to fellow grads. While there have been some signs that Harvard really is moving towards a more holistic approach, as of now the schools known for really caring about those things are Yale, Stanford, and Berkeley.MatthewF wrote:To anyone speculating about one undergrad vs another, Anna Ivey (admissions consultant and formerly the admissions dean at Chicago) explains this very well in a blog post where she addresses GPA differences and undergraduate schools. GPAs may be more inflated at some institutions than others. However, all law school admissions offices have access to an "Academic Summary Report" that tells them how your undergrad performance compares to OTHER applicants from your undergraduate institution who applied through LSAC. Essentially, a 3.8 from Noname University does not make you more competitive than someone from Stanford with a 3.5 (that is if the average GPA at Noname is 3.8 and the average at Stanford is 3.4). Hope that makes sense.

Aww, but your numbers look great to me though, I wouldn't worry! I survived my 2 month and 1 week wait for JS1 by not checking the thread and my email much, and then one day I woke up from a pleasant afternoon nap and there was the JS1 email. Just relax and it may sneak up on youSpikeSeagull wrote:Went complete 12/8, no JS1. Mine snuk up on me just as I had completely given up hope on doing anything meaningful in life. Then BAM!!! Exactly!! It's like they notice me just enough for me to keep hoping, and I keep hoping because I'm just so desperateLi'l Sebastian wrote:Mine snuk up on me just as I had completely given up hope on doing anything meaningful in life. Hi, long time lurker here.
Just curious is Jessica Soban the only female admission staff to conduct the interviews? Just did mine and didn't catch the interviewer's self-introduction (coz... I was nervous) and now wondering who I should address to when writing a thank you note.
Thanks!

And the overwhelming consensus is not to write thank you notes for JS1s. I didn't and got a JS2, and all current HLS students I've spoken to didn't either (and strongly advised against it).schocolate wrote:No, they are other women who conduct interviews.charlieww wrote:Hi, long time lurker here.

Why did they advise against it?cantorb wrote:

It seems impolite to not thank someone for giving you an opportunity. I don't see why it would matter either way, though, so I am curious to what the reasoning is behind this.

This! Been complete since 11/30. the tl;dr from spivey seemed to be that it can't hurt unless you have glaring typos and could help if writing to a newbie staff member

Don't remember exactly but I think it was basically that since it's not expected, you have nothing to gain by writing one and can only lose.grgregregre wrote:I wrote a thank you and got a JS2 so I don't think it hurtssanibella wrote:+1schocolate wrote:Why did they advise against it?cantorb wrote:

Re: Harvard C/O 2019 Applicants
I just got a big envelope from the Harvard Admissions Office in the mail, but unfortunately, it's empty. Affixed to it was a note:
"Dear Postal Customer:
We sincerely regret the damage to your mail during handling by the Postal Service. We hope this incident did not inconvenience you. We realize that your mail is important to you and that you have every right to expect it to be delivered in good condition..."
I'm not sure the envelope being opened and the contents being stolen counts as "damage," but at least I already got my JS2. Anyone who received this mailing intact want to fill me in on what I'm missing?
