Weird. At the last ASW I only saw one pair of parents (and I'm not even sure that they were parents or just guests...)DCfilterDC wrote:middlebear wrote:Seriously - this sort of weirded me out. Yeah it's totally normal to come out to the city on vacation but to come to all the events including meals and then ask random questions your child could clearly ask was weird to me. Gave me a bad vibe considering other schools I visited and next to no parents there.

Well besides the parents, the 2nd day of ASW was pretty good, thinking I'm committed at this point.

Parents at almost every event/discussion/tour I went to this time around. (Also - was I the only one sort of surprised by the number of ED'ers and the number of K-JDs?)mr.plum wrote:Weird. I'm a little mixed in my reaction - I liked CLS a lot more than I expected to, but... still some reservations. Looking for that finaid email next week, I suppose.

Middlebear is @ ASW, where Columbia is saying that letters will go out next week.

they say the same thing about students at Wharton, and NYU, and basically anywhere else where there is a strict curve. pretty sure this is an urban legend designed to troll prospective students.Mack.Hambleton wrote:I heard they rip pages out if books at the library at CLS so other students can't study

lol thank you for the translation. My brain is very fried at this point. but yes, was at ASW, and the finaid people said they want the first (so I'm assuming only some, and only if they get it all done) offers to go out next week.adman921 wrote:Beautifullc39 wrote:If I'm interpreting correctly:adman921 wrote:What do you mean at ASW? did you mean aftermiddlebear wrote: They're saying first letters will go out next week at ASW.

Apologies if this has been asked, but when are people expecting held candidates to start hearing? Have any heard already?

Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Just got my first communication from Columbia since the WL. The subject line said "Greetings from Columbia law school admissions committee" and I thought for a second that I had gotten in! Nope. It was just a LOCI reminder.
My favorite part was: "At this date, we also understand that you might have committed to another law school for the next three years. While we are saddened by the loss of your candidacy, we would appreciate it if you could notify us as soon as possible."
Well ya know what Columbia, I would also appreciate if you would tell me something as soon as possible!

Just got the same email. I'm not sure if this means they didn't get my LOCI (I sent it via mail). Can I ask them??

I wonder why they extended their LOCI deadline.. the deadline they stated in the original decision email was supposed to be today.

I do think it was generic though...I'm held, got the same email, and sent in my LOCI via email and received confirmation of receipt from them.

Just got a reminder to submit a LOCI (after missing Mar 27, apparently they're cool with getting it by April 3rd). If I'm being YPed, is a LOCI the difference between acceptance and rejection? Would it affect the amount of money offered? In fact wouldn't it be smartest for them to offer more money to people who weren't super into Columbia to attract them? That sounds stupid but in my head it's kind of making sense right now (ah the power of a lazy mind)

Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
This is a good question. I am fairly certain that I was YPed (well above both 75ths), but I kinda gave up on Columbia b/c I didn't think there was any hope of them beating my solid NYU offer if I'm coming off the waitlist. Does anyone have thoughts on this?Orion311 wrote:If I'm being YPed, is a LOCI the difference between acceptance and rejection? Would it affect the amount of money offered? Do we know if the online system for submitting a LOCI work? I sent in mine through that a while ago, but did not get any confirmation.

Been on the Columbia waitlist in a previous cycle. I submitted through the website then and got the confirmation page that comes up after you hit submit but nothing else. The next communication I got from them was one saying I would continue to be on the waitlist, and that's how the cycle went.Joe47 wrote:Do we know if the online system for submitting a LOCI work? No response yet for me this cycle. Fingers crossed though.

For those who got held, in your LOCI did you mention acceptances or scholarships from other schools? I figured I might as well try to negotiate in the letter, since other deadlines are running so close.

I mentioned Chicago (although not my scholarship offer) by saying that it was my current best offer but I would much rather live in New York than Chicago.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
