Do you think submitting a LOCI and a Why Cornell would be overkill?Yea All Right wrote:Admitted via email! 168 LSAT, 3.6x GPA. If you haven't already, I highly recommend submitting a Why Cornell essay (I sent one in earlier this week).

Not really, at least as far as I can tell. I would say a LOCI is a bit broader in terms of talking about oneself in addition to the school and they're formatted differently but other than that I don't personally see a huge difference.Otunga wrote:Is there much of a difference between the two?bostonbrewer wrote:Do you think submitting a LOCI and a Why Cornell would be overkill?Yea All Right wrote:Admitted via email! 168 LSAT, 3.6x GPA. Maybe it's coincidental that I had status changes right after submitting my essay, especially since I'm right at Cornell's medians, but I figure submitting an essay is worth it since it's easy to do and potentially helps lead to a large payoff (acceptance).blink wrote:Yea All Right wrote:Admitted via email! 168 LSAT, 3.6x GPA. I'm almost identical to this minus the decision part. What makes you recommend the why Cornell essay?

You could send an email with the text itself serving as the LOCI and then attach a Why Cornell essay to that email. After that, send in a LOCI via email every 3-4 weeks to reaffirm your interest. But take everything I say with a grain of salt since it's all speculation and continue asking for more opinions.bostonbrewer wrote:Do you think submitting a LOCI and a Why Cornell would be overkill?Yea All Right wrote:Admitted via email! 168 LSAT, 3.6x GPA. If I were a law school, I would appreciate it if applicants expressed interest in my clinics, classes, and faculty. As this would be written by 0Ls, it's bound to sound a little naive (and, dare I say it, insincere) but at the same time those characteristics are what make law schools unique. I don't think going into academic interests (even if you're biglaw or bust) would be bullshit.Otunga wrote:I've been at complete #1 since the end of January and while it hasn't been long since an update, Cornell is my top choice. Accordingly, would the following be too blunt to say in a LOCI/Why Cornell......
Essentially I'd say that, given my credentials (AKA numbers), aspirations, and expected COA (if I get in, I should get a solid scholarship relative to what I'd get at other t14s going by LSN), Cornell would make the most sense for me out of any school I've applied to. Would Cornell appreciate the sincerity or would it be considered too mechanical and/or robotic? I wouldn't want to bullshit them too much about their clinics as if someone is going for biglaw first and foremost, it comes off as disingenuous, and frankly it appears the clinics don't differentiate from themselves much in the t14 anyway. I've read people saying to look into 2L and 3L classes or professor research and talk up that. While research does interest me, I think they know that one isn't choosing a LS based on professors they'd really like to work with, as LS isn't a Masters/PhD program.
Well, the academic interests thing wouldn't be insincere at all (and I hope it wouldn't come off as naive), so it's probably worth writing about. Thanks.retaking23 wrote:If I were a law school, I would appreciate it if applicants expressed interest in my clinics, classes, and faculty. Just my .02
Haha yeah. I wouldn't want to write that in the actual LOCI! It's too conversational I'd say.Yea All Right wrote:I agree with retaking23's assessment. Regarding your LOCI, it sounds good except for the part about Cornell making the most sense for you; for some reason the phrase "makes the most sense" sounds like Cornell is your top choice just because it is the logical one, not because you actually have a strong desire to attend (just my opinion).
