We still haven't seen enough JS1bs to account for the JS2 wave required. This will probably be drawn out over the course of the week.
1. Congrats to the new JS2s!
2. Speculation: JS1bs aren't so much yield "protect" as they are means to determine the impact of high-stats WLers their overall WL admissions decisions before they send them out. That is, if you want to admit some below median folks in a reasonable timeframe, you need to figure out the likelihood of high-stats folks' matriculating to determine the net effect. It's essentially an expected value issue where the likelihood of high-stats ppl accepting an offer < lower-stats ppl accepting, and the JS1b clarifies the probability of the former.
Or it could be something totally different since it doesn't seem like that happened last year.

Looking at the google doc most of the js1b's (and inevitable js2's) were from 4/5 js1' invites.
Maybe they're going in some sort of order by date .. ?

I think this makes a lot of sense. All the JS2s so far have had similar "galactic numbers" (I love that term now). They also came from the JS1B mini wave that happened yesterday. It seems that they are making their decisions in smaller batches starting with the highest numbers and working their way down. That process allows them to gauge their yield better than one big wave.
I guess only time will tell...

Except for the "soft" based 169 / 4.12

Wow, congrats everyone! I hadn't checked this thread today, and as soon as I saw the page count blow up, I figured there must have been some JS2s handed out.
I'm going to continue being insanely jealous and hoping for a measly Js1.

A big congratulations to the new JS2s! Welcome! Thanks for allowing me to relive that awesome vibe after each successive JS2 - especially the moment when it finally was my turn. Congrats

4.12 is still pretty galactic. Especially if it is combined with strong softs.
I am probably just finding reasons to stay hopeful... it is getting harder by the minute!

That only explains why they are expanding the JS2s out over a couple of days. The only possible reason to call someone the day before you admit them to ask if they would attend if admitted is yield protection. JS1bs are
definitely a function of YP.

Everyone always says JS calls people late in the day, into the evening, and yet these calls were all done in the early afternoon (and presumably not that many if it's only JS1b people from yesterday). Does this mean there might be some more JS1b's today? Because if she calls later into the evening normally, and started at like 2 PM today, then maybe it's because she's sending out more than a handful of calls.
In other words as a non-JS1b person I have nothing to do but sit here and speculate...

I'm interested in the 4/5 JS1 theory. Thoughts on this?

This is more taxing on my psyche than just having to wait. Watching you all get excited and accepted.. sniff.. it makes me feel the gamut of emotions .

not that i have any basis for this, but any movement is good movement if you're waiting on a js1 still. which is to say, they need to clear out some of the high numbers to move to the next batch of interviews.

We're calling these things "JS2s" and "JS1bs" even when KB is making the call.

When she calls you tomorrow for your JS2 do the rest of us (and future TLS generations) a favor and make sure you ask her what's up with JS1Bs this cycle.

Yeah, I felt like I was going through the wait along with them again. I know it isn't exactly the same.
