Re: Michigan 2011
Also just got my packet in the mail (submitted ED 11/8, status checker 11/22 in on ASW on 12/8). Up until now I almost didn't believe it was real =) SO happy right now, and the handwritten note is such a nice touch! I was right at median so I had been wondering what put me over the edge.
Best of luck to everyone still waiting, and 'grats to potential Darrow recipients!

The bad thing about getting into Y and H with a low-ish LSAT is that I probably won't get invites for named scholarships like the Darrow. Sadsville.

I could probably find this myself (sorry) but what's the approximate turnaround time after getting a status checker/complete email? Submitted beginning of Nov., status checker late last week.

The waiting is brutal, especially with many other 10/26ers having decisions already

While I can see how her posts might be a tad stressful sometimes, keep in mind that her intentions in what she's writing are ultimately good...she is giving you an inside look at the admissions process in a personal and humorous way...her humor is not really condescension but good-natured jocularity.

Welcome to the club! I wonder what's holding up the decisions for us remaining 10/26ers.archie&veronica wrote: Another 10/26er here... above both 75% and did one of the optional essays

A general 10/26 waiting club has probably existed since 10/27, but the crushed confidence, hopelessly waiting 10/26 club full of unrequited love for Michigan and Dean Z is a new development. Maybe we should make our own thread so we're easier to find?seancooksey07 wrote:How long has this club existed?!?! I hate it so much. Re: Michigan 2011
I did two optional essays (no Why Mich, though...submitted a DS and also a GPA addendum - had some health issues that brought GPA down one semester). At 75th for LSAT, below 25th for GPA (not egregiously below, though). Mexican-American, too.archie&veronica wrote:Another 10/26er here... above both 75% and did one of the optional essaysleopardRAWR wrote:I'm glad I am not the only 10/26er left! Have gotten into GULC, denied at Cornell (I was told on the Cornell thread that it's probably YP, but I don't want to sound conceited or anything), and have been waiting since September for UVA. Full ride offers from Iowa and Illinois, so I know I didn't screw my application up completely.
I love Mich. When I was a little kid I used to play football in my backyard and would sing the Mich fight song (a tune I learned from watching Wolverines games on TV every Saturday) every time I scored a TD. I really wish they didn't limit applicants to two optional essays, because I really wanted to write a Why Mich.
I second this motion!A general 10/26 waiting club has probably existed since 10/27, but the crushed confidence, hopelessly waiting 10/26 club full of unrequited love for Michigan and Dean Z is a new development. Maybe we should make our own thread so we're easier to find?

Holy crap, way to quote an ancient post.Robert398 wrote:DreamShake wrote:+1. Asha frequently tends to come off as inadvertently condescending on her 203 blog,seancooksey07 wrote:TITCR.hipstermafia wrote:I may be tls shunned for saying this, but i am NOT ASHAMED:

While I can see how her posts might be a tad stressful sometimes, keep in mind that her intentions in what she's writing are ultimately good...she is giving you an inside look at the admissions process in a personal and humorous way...what you are taking as condescension is actually good-natured jocularity.
Nothing you said contradicts what you quoted. Having said that--no, it is generally not the "good-natured jocularity" that espouses condescension to some extent (nor do her posts seem stressful). More frequently, it's implicit in some piece of advice or relating of a personal anecdote, and I seriously doubt the author even realizes what she's doing. As I said before, any condescension seems to be inadvertent. That, of course, does not prevent its still being annoying, which is why I +1'd the "Dean Z >." She simply comes off as far more down-to-earth.

I've never felt condescended to by her blog posts. If you have, then it is simply a matter of how you're taking it, because I'm pretty sure it isn't intentional... opinions on whether there is a hint of subtle condescension or whatever will vary, but she's doing applicants a favor in what has seemed to me to be a fun / personal style.

Is it bad that I don't really care about status checkers and all that? I'm totally cool with just letting the mail ring when it does. From this thread it seems as if my fellow Michigan applicants have to do an unusual amount of waiting/worrying compared to other schools, so I thought I'd ask here.
I'm kinda worried there's some advantage I'm missing out on haha

No, there's no advantage...I think that there are just a lot of people in this forum that REALLY want to go to Mich. I am one of them, so I get it.pereira6 wrote:Is it bad that I don't really care about status checkers and all that? I'm totally cool with just letting the mail ring when it does. But it would be best, yeah, to be chill and just let come what may.
