Still a-waiting since early December. According to LSN, almost all folks who've applied after me have either gotten accepted or rejected at this point. Hoping this is a good sign since Michigan is my top choice, but my numbers are making the case difficult.

Thinking of sending them a second optional essay over a month past the initial application. Can it hurt?

As long as the essay isn't about how slow they are at getting through your app, I don't see how it could.Nightwing wrote:Thinking of sending them a second optional essay over a month past the initial application. Can it hurt?

Yes, and there are 468 members at present, some of which are admissions staff.calpolisci2016 wrote:Is there a FB group for admitted students and if so how many are members? Trying to gauge how many admissions mich has made.

Yeah, there were a BUNCH on there that are currently listed as already studying at UMich. I wouldn't read too, too much into that number.StopLawying wrote:Just want to add that I believe a lot are also current students.S.Picquery wrote:Yes, and there are 468 members at present, some of which are admissions staff.calpolisci2016 wrote:Is there a FB group for admitted students and if so how many are members? Haha, thanks for both the laugh and the advice. I was just worried it might make the review take even longer or something... maybe push it back in their queue or something.Sarastro wrote:As long as the essay isn't about how slow they are at getting through your app, I don't see how it could.Nightwing wrote:Thinking of sending them a second optional essay over a month past the initial application. Also there with ya: applied early December, went complete around the 20th, and have been stuck on complete ever since. You're not alone!rozes wrote:Still a-waiting since early December. Mich accepts over 1200 applicants too. Safe to assume we have much bigger waves coming our way?S.Picquery wrote:Yeah, there were a BUNCH on there that are currently listed as already studying at UMich. I would think so. They accept a lot of people in February and we're only half way through.calpolisci2016 wrote:Mich accepts over 1200 applicants too. Scholarship "Heat Map" for those interested. Pulled reported numbers from the first 3 pages of Michigan's LSN applicant page.
http://imgur.com/p3yiybl
My intention for pulling this together was to provide those of you who think you maybe deserve more money, to have some confidence asking, and to make the rest of you aware if you may have already been rewarded above the mean.
Disclaimers:
1 - This is only a small sample of people (1st 3 pages of LSN as of 9 AM today)
2 - There may or may not be numerous people with these numbers getting 0K, 30K, or 200K, etc...
3 - Lots of people don't bother to post scholarship info (IDK why?)

Interesting, seems like a pretty straightforward, numbers based decision...saf18hornet wrote:Scholarship "Heat Map" for those interested. Pulled reported numbers from the first 3 pages of Michigan's LSN applicant page.

it says that I should've received 120K but I got a step less (not listed on the map), along with someone else with the same numbersSarastro wrote:Except for that 178 3.9 that got stiffed loltheboringest wrote:Interesting, seems like a pretty straightforward, numbers based decision...saf18hornet wrote:Scholarship "Heat Map" for those interested. So hopefully this chart will help you to have confidence to go back to the admissions with an e-mail saying, "Thanks so much for the generous scholarship. I'm very debt averse, and was wondering if it be possible to increase my scholarship to 120k? That amount would certainly close the deal for making UMich my #1 choice."Keilz wrote:it says that I should've received 120K but I got a step less (not listed on the map), along with someone else with the same numbersSarastro wrote:Except for that 178 3.9 that got stiffed loltheboringest wrote:Interesting, seems like a pretty straightforward, numbers based decision...saf18hornet wrote:Scholarship "Heat Map" for those interested. Obviously, only do this if it's actually true. But I think charts like these are helpful for those who may not have competing offers for scholarship negotiation to get a feel for what they may be leaving on the table.

Checking in here, this is my big reach but ones gotta dream.
Anyways, its been 3 and a half weeks that they've had my application but its still incomplete-in process, so I'm hoping it will move on to the next step of the process soon!

Mine has been in that about the same amount of time, so I am totally in the same boat. It's my last one that's still not complete or in review. I'm anxious for it to ready for review!supersean wrote:Checking in here, this is my big reach but ones gotta dream.
