Also curious for additional explanation, that's a bold claim...perhaps it's a bold fact. Also, can anyone shed some light on "priority reserve," and "priority reserve interviews," are there multiple wait lists e.g. priority vs regular, like how GULC does it? Or is "reserve" equivalent of "held" and technically those under reserve haven't had a final decision made yet?calawgrl wrote:where is this coming from? are you a current duke student?SquedTheScholar wrote:Many students are waitlisted at Duke and then accepted. I have a good number of friends at Duke Law, and honestly I feel like a majority of them got in off the waitlist. I think there is some truth in Squed's comment.WhatCouldHaveBeen wrote:Also curious for additional explanation, that's a bold claim...perhaps it's a bold fact. Re: Duke Law c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Thanks for sharing your insight. This is nice to hear for those (like me) who have just been waitlisted. The next pressing question: what's the magic recipe for these "large portions" and "majorities" who are getting off the wait list each year?chicago_01 wrote:I have a good number of friends at Duke Law, and honestly I feel like a majority of them got in off the waitlist. There are two waitlists. The Priority Reserve list is a much smaller pool than the waitlist. That doesn't seem to have stopped plenty of people from getting in off the normal waitlist in past cycles.WhatCouldHaveBeen wrote:Also curious for additional explanation, that's a bold claim...perhaps it's a bold fact. I have no reason to spread misinformation. Obviously I have not conducted a scientific study of the student body and thus my statement is anecdotal in nature. Having said this, it would be a mistake to view a waitlist as a step toward rejection. My opinion is that, at Duke, its simply a sign that you are not an automatic admit. Nothing more. Also, if you do get in off the waitlist, do not think that $ is out of reach. Check out this thread: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... hilit=rainWhatCouldHaveBeen wrote:Also curious for additional explanation, that's a bold claim...perhaps it's a bold fact. Only 16% of Duke students pay sticker. I am confident that some of the 84% of students not paying sticker were initially waitlisted. As for the amount of $ that can be expected. Anecdotally, I do not know anyone that has received a scholarship less than $15k per year. This includes those that were waitlisted and then accepted. So it seems, from my personal knowledge, that you either get no scholarship (16% of students) or you receive at least $15k per year in scholarship.
One last thought. I am not sure if those 509 reports calculate only the incoming 1L class or the entire school. If it uses the entire school in its calculation, remember that there are between 8-10 transfers into Duke each year. This constitutes approximately 3% of the student body (ten 2L transfers and ten 3L transfers at the school in any given year are attending the school which equals approx 3% of the student body (20/600)). Transfers pay full price as far as I know. This means that the percentage of students paying sticker not including transfers is actually 13%.

Still UR1 on 12/8. Would a LOCI be inappropriate here given that initial decisions can come anytime until late April?

Whoa I'm not the only one still on this date. Trying to decide about LOCI too since we're getting later in the cycle now.

Do any of y'all know if there is a way to access scholarship award letters online? I am trying to negotiate some aid at another school, but don't have access to my letter.

Re: Duke Law c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
I was waitlisted via priority track, and I haven't sent in an LOCI b/c I've honestly been waiting on other schools/I'm lazy...reading through recent posts, though, it seems some people are saying that there's a pretty good chance of getting accepted off waitlist?
Is it too late to send in a LOCI? (this would be my first LOCI, so if anyone has links to advice/tips about format (it would be addressed to the general admissions email, correct?) that's in this thread or elsewhere, I'd appreciate if he/she can PM me! thanks!) I was waitlisted 2/7, so over a month ago...
ETA: and I would address the email to Dean Hoye, right? thanks
