I will tentatively be gone Friday around noon (catching a ride with a classmate). However I wil be out Thursday for law night. I'll post this week's location when it gets posted on Facebook. To all - Looking for a little guidance. I am completing my 3rd year undergrad. I attend a college in the midwest and play basketball (D2 scholarship). My season has just ended and I will be taking the LSAT in October (not enough prep time for June). I currently have a 3.98 GPA.
For admission purposes, what are my chances if my LSAT is 155-160? I have no idea how I will do I am just asking. I am a resident of Iowa. Since I am taking the LSAT in October and won't be applying until December or so- what will be my timeline regarding acceptance? Should I apply to other schools for options or leverage? The in-state tuition is pretty attractive and I plan to practice in Iowa. Thanks

I'll will say what everyone else will. With a 3.98, you should not settle for anything between 155-160. I would think you'd get accepted regardless, but raise that to the mid-160s and you'd be looking at a lot of money.

If I were you I'd take it in June. 2 and a half months is plenty of time, I think.

If you need to retake, there's always October.

Original diagnostic score: 152. Final actual score: 166.

I took the Kaplan course but, despite being a good introduction to the material, it wasn't worth the money. I then worked through the Manhattan RC book and LR bible (I didn't need to work on games). In addition, I took about 10-15 self-administered practice tests. I would study for about 6 hours during the week (using the books), take a practice test Saturday morning (at the time of the actual LSAT), and then take Sunday off. I did this for about 2 months after my first test.

IMO take the Manhattan LSAT course online. It is superior to powerscore in games and LR. Reading comprehension is a wash between all of the companies. I would rank LSAT prep that has been mentioned as..

1.) Manhattan LSAT
2.) Power Score
3.) Kaplan

I got a 154 cold, didn't take any courses, practiced through 4 tests the week before the first test, got a 162 in October, took 1 more practice test and got a 166 in December. My application was complete Jan 9 and I had scholarship info by the beginning of February. The thing that got me the first time was that I freaked out and got too nervous. If you can keep from doing that, just take it in June. Over half the guys signed up to take it at my location in December didn't show because of a severe winter storm. I was lucky to get my December one in so just take it in June and again in October if you really need to.

I agree with everyone else, but I will add that I took the October LSAT and got my score back before the end of October. There's no reason to wait until December to apply.

Ideally though, if I had that kind of GPA and was an athlete, I would keep moving on LSAT and get my score as high as possible and go to a T14. I would imagine that if you got to 168 or so, you could get Northwestern.

I would take about two years after UG and get some work experience, take as many prep classes as you can, and get that score up. You'll be a top notch candidate, and hopefully the job market will be better by then.

I don't see the legal market drastically improving even with a recovery in economy. There are too many law grads and law schools. Lawyers are way more efficient now due to technology than 20 and even 10 years ago and outsourcing to foreign lawyers to do research etc is becoming increasingly common at big firms.

This is true, but I think fewer people will go to law school between now and when this poster graduates, and there is a chance that with some economic improvement there may be some increased demand. I don't think the market is going to go back to what it was, but I think that it is more likely that it will be better in 7 years than worse.

I mean the number of college graduates is expected to rise.. that means that there will be more wayward liberal arts majors looking to hideout for 3 more years and to get a marketable degree.. hence I see no reason to believe that the number of law school graduates will taper off enough to make a dent in the employment situation
