What is faculty review, is it different from a regular review?msblaw89 wrote:I hope so... I don't think I can wait much longer without losing itAspen wrote:Nope, not yet. From what I have gathered... about 1200-1600 competitive applicants are sent to faculty review. By competitive I mean not an auto-admit, but not a reject either. A group of faculty and students looks over the competitive applicants and about 200-300 are accepted.

Dean Tom wrote:All the files are read, previewed initially by me or by one of my staff. I have four other people who help me with the application process initially. However, I read the bulk of them. I read about two-thirds of the applicant pool, while the other four read the other one-third. It’s structured this way because I know what I’m looking for. And, if my staff finds an applicant whom they want to admit, they have to bring the file to me for a final review. Concurrent to this review process we also identify about 1400 to 1600 other applications that are very competitive, and these we send to our faculty admissions committee, comprised of six faculty and twelve students. Students serve in an advising capacity on the committee. I admit roughly 550 people through what I call the administrative review process, and the admissions committee (the faculty committee) admits about another 200 or so. So, we end up admitting about 700 to 750 people. The admissions committee also structures a waiting list, and then everyone else is denied, either administratively or by the Committee.

How do you know if you are in this faculty review pool? And is this the reason why mine is taking so long. Gah

Well we won't know until we are told. Around this time last cycle Berkeley sent e-mails to those who were being sent to FR. At this point, we are all just assuming if we have an early UR date that we are going to FR b/c there have been several admits/rejections already that we weren't a part ofjoetheplumber wrote:msblaw89 wrote:From what I have gathered... about 1200-1600 competitive applicants are sent to faculty review. Do we have any idea what kind of timeline the faculty review operates under? As in, how long has it taken them in the past to start rolling out decisions?

Don't know. I'm 12/12 here. Someone said not many 12/12ers received decisions yet. Who was that?

How could you possibly prefer a rejection over a faculty review? If that's the case, withdraw.sokomofo wrote:are they gonna send out more acceptances/rejections before the faculty review begins? im not sure if i prefer a rejection or a faculty review.. i just want a decision so that i can move on

Is there any way of guessing if you will be sent to the Faculty Review?

Re: Berkeley c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
For those of us more recent waiters, (UR 1/18) does Berkeley have an intermediate status between UR and decision rendered? Also, what is the standard waiting period (not for those who have been tortured and UR since early december/november)?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
