I had my interview the week before LSAT scores came out, so I sent one to update her on my score (we talked about it in the interview) and thank her. I really don't think it matters either way, though: like Strange said, they are undoubtedly swamped with paperwork and emails right now.
well, this was an off-campus interview. she's an alumnus of the school, a lawyer who interviews a few candidates a year. i don't mean to send the thank-you note as a way of boosting my chances of admittance, i just meant whether it would be rude not to.
I sent a handwritten note. Others here can speak to the wisdom or foolishness of this but in my work, I
always remember when someone (client/vendor/etc) sends a note.
This is true, however I would caution against sending handwritten notes for decisions that will likely be made in a short period of time.
At my old job we usually made hiring recommendations the day of the interview or the day after, and the ultimate hiring decision would happen within a week. Whenever I received a hand written note it was frequently several days, to weeks after the decision had been made and communicated.
I think admissions decisions are sufficiently slow that hand written thank you notes are fine.

+1 I've always had really good experiences with hand written notes. I also sent a thank you card to my interviewer at NU.

A little off-topic but is anyone else tempted to give up TLS for a while? All of my applications are in, there's nothing I can do about them now, and yet I find I'm wasting so much time on here driving myself crazy reading about others hearing from schools.

If my job was more engaging, yes. As it is, no.

I just avoid the waiting threads when I'm not in the mood to silently mock the insanity. My job is quite boring, so TLS is helping to keep me sane.

I tried this but didn't last more than a couple hours. My job is pretty dull as well and all my fantasy football picks are in for the week.

At NU right now. Sitting in on criminal law, taking a tour before my interview. Hope they like me; I would thrive here.

My job is in a very slow process of waiting on contracts to be solidified before we can sign some contracts and actually get to work. So I'm not busy at all right now

I did not write one. I only wrote a Why NU. But I have no diversity. If I were you, I would write one, but if you have a Why NU, I don't think it would that bad to not do the DS.

DS is never mandatory AFAIK. But if your profile is true and youre a minority they care about you need to write one.

blerg. Thanks guys. I know all of this but needed to hear it. Writing this thing is like some sort of bizarre masturbatory exercise. It's... uncomfortable.

Hey, question for you guys. Does anyone know why Northwestern gets lower peer and lawyer/judge assessment scores than its peer schools (like UMich for example)? It just seems odd to me because given Northwestern's emphasis on teaching a student practical skills, I would think they would get high assessment scores from lawyers and judges. I understand the peer assessment scores given Northwestern's business school-y lean.

I would guess that might be part of the reason for the lawyers'/judges' as well but I really have no idea and couldn't begin to speculate.
In other news...
From Johann's G+ wrote:Things that grind my gears: Part 1
As we begin the transition from "recruitment travel" to "file reading", I'm reminded about the strange stuff that applicants do every year that have a tendency to make me say... why? So- here is a quick list of some things NOT do this application season.
1) Refuse to take a standardized test
- Believe it or not, this does happen. At Northwestern Law, we have a whole host of programs where you can take the GMAT instead of the LSAT (AJD and JD-MBA). There is some flexibility in testing. However, you have to take a required test for admission.
2) Submit a "legal document" as your personal statement
- Every year, we have folks that submit some form of "legal writing" as their personal statement. More often than not, it ends up as an epic fail. The Admissions Committee is much more interested in learning about you, the individual, than your ability to write in a style that will be modified as soon as you walk onto campus.
3) Sending an e-mail to the "Admissions Committee" and Bcc or Cc the entire faculty.
- I know it's easy. Nothing puts me in a worse mindset than than having to reply, "I'll take care of it" and hit <shift><delete> over 115 times. Enough said.
4) Contacting the office and demanding an "off-campus" interview in January.
- Our deadlines are on our website. The deadline clearly did not impact the over two thousand plus applicants that requested and conducted off-campus interviews during the months of September-December. Think.. before you demand.
A salute to all our veterans out there. Congrats to the thousands of people getting married today on 11/11/11. Have a great weekend!

Yeah, it has been quiet, but nothing has happened on the NU front. They don't seem to be sending out any decisions yet, unlike other schools. I hope this thread will get busy again soon!

Mid Dec for ED apps and Jan/Feb for RD, yeah. Most of the admits will be done by early/mid March.
