This actually isn't accurate. As a result of the SC's decision in Grutter vs. Bollinger, the University of Michigan and other state universities have a compelling interest in admitting a diverse class of law students. Using affirmative action in that context was deemed narrowly tailored to meet that interest. Michigan is allowed to consider race and ethnicity holistically and use those aspects of an applicant's background when they're making decisions. Michigan can't have quotas or give an application an automatic number of additional points just because the applicant is a URM, but they are allowed to weigh race along with lots of other factors when they choose the incoming class.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grutter_v._Bollinger
Michigan amended their state constitution after Grutter to prohibit such consideration. So actually, it's very accurate.
The Michigan Civil Rights Initiative got overturned by the 6th Circuit on appeal in July. Michigan's AG said he's going to appeal that ruling. To be fair, I didn't know that this had happened when I posted my response. But at the very least, the legislation seems to be in some kind of limbo. I'm not sure what that means in terms of admissions, but I don't think it's quite as clear cut as "Michigan can't use race in admissions decisions." Grutter vs. Bollinger on the other hand is federal law and, to my knowledge, has not been overturned. I think the Supreme Court might be hearing arguments on a related affirmative action case next year.
http://www.michigan.gov/ag/0,1607,7-164 ... --,00.html
"The Michigan Civil Rights Initiative will remain in force pending a final decision by the court."
Yes, there are efforts to defeat the amendment to the state constitution by finding it unconstitutional, but the state amendment remains in place during the appeals process. It is, for the moment, that clear cut. Grutter v. Bollinger DOES talk about what is constitutional, but does not talk about state law. Michigan could (and would) take race into account as Michigan Law had prior to the passage of prop 2. As the law currently stands Michigan can't take race into account.
Also, Joe Mo isn't a URM. As he said.

Yeah, my point wasn't related to affirmative action in Joe Mo's case. But I stand corrected. If the statute is still in place, then it's still in place and Michigan won't be considering race in admissions.

Anyone else get an "Oops. Sorry." email because they accidentally put 2011 on your acceptance letter instead of 2012?
"Oops. Sorry" was literally the subject of the email. Scared the crap out of me.

I got that email, and had exactly the same reaction.
I liked the content of the email - Dean Z. obviously has a great sense of humor.

Haha, that is so funny. I would have freaked out! Dean Z. seems awesome, Michigan is really looking good in my book. It’s weird to think that the list of places I’ll end up next year is actually narrowing down.

How did you find out? Wondering when the decision was available to you. I think you are the first Oct LSAT taker to get a response. Are you ED? Hope this is just the beginning of good news for today/tomorrow.....

Good luck to everyone still waiting!
It's important to note that he's an URM. Seems like at all schools URMs have a different cadence for admission (i.e., Tuesday has a bunch of URMs admitted, then on Thursday and Friday you'll see a bunch of non-URM admits).
I'm not URM. Not sure where you got that from.
You got your status checker on Nov. 10th?! I got mine on the 10th too! Wonder if that mean I'll be getting a decision soon too...
Anyone else who got their checker on the 10th hear back yet?

Oh my gosh, me too! I saw the email in my inbox and almost had a heart attack. I hadn't noticed the 2011 error (I am away for Thanksgiving weekend and haven't returned yet) and only knew about my acceptance through the ASW. I saw the message and was like, "I KNEW I should have waited for the official package before being so happy!" I thought she was going to say that she accidentally gave me access but I hadn't been admitted yet. It was a great email, though... I love their sense of humor. And I'm relieved that I'm in for sure!

is this true? if so, i really hope i have mine by the time i wake up tomorrow (china time). i know a status checker won't help me be less obsessive about my application, but until i get it i'm going to be convinced my app fell behind a desk.

I know this is true for NYU, I hadn't noticed that same pattern for Mich? If the above posters got theirs on Nov. 10th, then that's a Thursday-- so I'm not sure that Michigan sends them out only on Tuesdays.

FWIW, I don't think there will be too many regular decision people hearing within the next couple of weeks. It sounds like they're trying to clear the ED pool.

Oh that was weeks ago! I need at least one acceptance a month not to feel inadequate.

+1... Looking at last year's chart it seems they sent out ED acceptances this week-next week and then went back the RD pool.

Edit: I see what you mean. The chart from the OP shows a dip in the green and an apex on the dark blue for November week 4.

Anyone have 11/28/2011 as the last update date, still? I'm showing page last updated as 11/29/2011 in the lower left corner, but the date on the status checker as 11/28/2011.

Doesn't the status change almost everyday? I don't think it means anything necessarily

Yep. I stopped checking ASW a few days ago though I'm still hoping my file fell on the floor and is currently being reveiwed/accepted.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
