I just listened to the song that Johann links to on Twitter w/decision releases for the first time and I've got to admit, it's extremely catchy. Now I'm a little less anxious about not having received a decision yet.

More essays? It stinks.2000andBeyond wrote:You actually have to write two essays explaining financial need for aid, your case for merit aid, and how NU specifically can help you achieve your goals. It's not a super pleasant experience lol. We will find out by end of March at the earliest I believe. Also, it's due on March 1.Thelaw23 wrote:I can't breath.
I thought it was Georgetown for me. Just read the DLS letter.
I need to do some research now aomggg
Edit: can somebody tell me about financial aid? Where do I find if I get merit scholarship?

Man... still nothing. Went complete at NW, UVA, and Mich in early November but haven't heard a peep out of any of them.

Re: Northwestern c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
so i am up for online video interview and received a link from them.
the practice question seemed oriented more for admission to a grade school than a law school:
would you rockclimb or read a book?
what's the best gift you received? (seriously, is this a law school interview !?!
)
what's the most fun time you had? (srsly, again !?!!
)
i assume the actual intv qs are going to be more advanced. still, what exactly is NU looking from these qs? are they looking for someone geared for being a thinker or a doer? i mean it's hard to come up with a balanced answer for such qs even with prep time in minutes/hours than in 30 secs they give you.

Disclaimer: I did not do a video interview. Those questions are just for you to get used to the format (timing etc.), work out any technical issues, and get more comfortable in front of the camera before you begin the actual questions. If you search through this thread you will find examples of the real questions that people are asked which are fairly typical behavioral questions and yes, of course are more advanced than rock climbing vs. reading a book.appind wrote:so i am up for online video interview and received a link from them.

The practice questions won't be like the ones you'll get on the actual interview.appind wrote:so i am up for online video interview and received a link from them.

A poster a few pages back went through this entire thread and gathered all the questions. Go through those, they're a huge help. The school just wants to see how you think on your feet. All the questions will be behavioral, related to themes like teamwork, overcoming adversity, etc.
I actually enjoyed the interview. Would prefer that type of format to a Skype interview. Good luck!

even with the behavioral qs about failures and past experiences, what exactly is NU looking for? i mean, one could narrate an experience in a way that exemplifies intellectual abilities to solve a problem. or it can showcase the action oriented doer abilities. most they are pretty disjoint. a good answer may depend on exactly what they need and are looking for from this.Anon.y.mousse. wrote:Disclaimer: I did not do a video interview. i think behavioral qs are very much opposite of thinking on your feet. it's not hard to answer behavioral qs, but the quality of answer largely depends on what the interviewers want.StopLawying wrote:The practice questions won't be like the ones you'll get on the actual interview.appind wrote:so i am up for online video interview and received a link from them.

there are no magical right answers to these things, they just want to learn more about you and how you operate. have you ever done an interview like that before? i think trying to figure out how to tell them what they want to hear is not a great strategy.appind wrote:even with the behavioral qs about failures and past experiences, what exactly is NU looking for? i mean, one could narrate an experience in a way that exemplifies intellectual abilities to solve a problem. or it can showcase the action oriented doer abilities. most they are pretty disjoint. a good answer may depend on exactly what they need and are looking for from this.Anon.y.mousse. wrote:Disclaimer: I did not do a video interview. i've done it before but not for LS. usually you tailor your answer that shows you "fit", true? so couldn't the prep can take days and even months to think of the right way to approach it?Anon.y.mousse. wrote:there are no magical right answers to these things, they just want to learn more about you and how you operate. have you ever done an interview like that before? i think trying to figure out how to tell them what they want to hear is not a great strategy.appind wrote:even with the behavioral qs about failures and past experiences, what exactly is NU looking for? i mean, one could narrate an experience in a way that exemplifies intellectual abilities to solve a problem. or it can showcase the action oriented doer abilities. most they are pretty disjoint. a good answer may depend on exactly what they need and are looking for from this.Anon.y.mousse. wrote:Disclaimer: I did not do a video interview. "fit" is also a nebulous subjective thing that depends a lot on external factors.

I applied towards the end/middle of January and didn't interview. Got in a couple of days ago. I wouldn't take that as a good example though. I think it is much better to interview and it raises your chances. I probably just got extremely lucky.BarMan wrote:Just curious--- anyone here apply but decide not to partake in an interview? Re: Northwestern c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Or alternatively, just don't be a weirdo and try to overthink it. Be yourself and give the best answer possible. You only have a minute to respond to each question. It's like 9 minutes total including the prep before each question. The thing flies by. Trying to remember your answers as a way to "fit in" to whatever they're looking for is a lost cause.appind wrote:i've done it before but not for LS. usually you tailor your answer that shows you "fit", true? so couldn't the prep can take days and even months to think of the right way to approach it?Anon.y.mousse. wrote:there are no magical right answers to these things, they just want to learn more about you and how you operate. have you ever done an interview like that before? i think trying to figure out how to tell them what they want to hear is not a great strategy.appind wrote:even with the behavioral qs about failures and past experiences, what exactly is NU looking for? i mean, one could narrate an experience in a way that exemplifies intellectual abilities to solve a problem. or it can showcase the action oriented doer abilities. most they are pretty disjoint. a good answer may depend on exactly what they need and are looking for from this.Anon.y.mousse. wrote:Disclaimer: I did not do a video interview. Same situation for me. Wouldn't take the lack of an interview as a good thing, though.Thelaw23 wrote:I applied towards the end/middle of January and didn't interview. Got in a couple of days ago. Has anyone else not heard back that went complete before Dec 1st? Don't have any idea how to interpret this since a bunch of people got accepted, waitlisted, and rejected so I could have been in any of those categories.
