I am probably in a similar boat as you (LSAT = 75th, GPA << 25th), and I agree with your assessment. At least for me, I do not see the hold as YP.Generally wrote:I am a splitter sitting right on the 75th LSAT, so not too surprising for them to wait on me and see if they need that score.

Does being placed on hold mean no scholarship if you get in later?

I'm assuming there would be no merit money, simply because later in the cycle = less money/less need to fill out the class, but I have no evidence for that. I'm feeling a bit better now that I know the hold isn't actually a WL, but I'm still bitter enough to think I would turn down a full ride after this nonsense.ChinaCat wrote:Does being placed on hold mean no scholarship if you get in later?

It says they are delaying decisions and you can be accepted, put on reserve, or denied at a later date.oliverotis wrote:Are we sure that hold =/= WL?
So its definitely not the same as reserve, but IT SURE FEELS LIKE IT.

It's effectively a "we're still deciding, but write a LOCI to help us."texasellewoods wrote:It says they are delaying decisions and you can be accepted, put on reserve, or denied at a later date.oliverotis wrote:Are we sure that hold =/= WL?

Super pleasant but APPARENTLY THAT MEANS NOTHINGRZ5646 wrote:What are interviews like?
But in all seriousness the interview is great, best one of my cycle by far. Very relaxed and friendly. She went off script a lot and we just talked about things that interested us. Have a good reason for living in NYC - mine seemed concerned my southernness wouldn't do well in the big city haha

Agreed, it's very relaxed. I would add to make sure you have questions prepared because my interviewer emphasized they wanted it to be a conversation and they really like to see that people have done some basic research on the school.texasellewoods wrote:Super pleasant but APPARENTLY THAT MEANS NOTHINGRZ5646 wrote:What are interviews like?

Hold. LOL
Now I can concentrate on prepping for my JS1 instead of obsessing over Columbia.

That's surprising. Isn't NYC basically the cultural capital of the world that every young person flocks to, and doesn't it have a huge number of biglaw jobs?texasellewoods wrote:Have a good reason for living in NYCRZ5646 wrote:What are interviews like?
What are the questions like? Lots of standard interview questions ("tell me about a time that you...") or is it conversational?

Got held. I'm def not YP, if anything I would think I'm borderline. Guys... i know that it sounds crazy, but maybe being held means exactly that? strong enough to not get rejected/waitlisted immediately, but still some caution due to being a borderline candidate, being too strong of a candidate and likely going to a better school, being right on target but still hesitant because nothing about their application points to them attending if admitted to a peer school, not a good cultural fit, etc.

Re: Columbia C/O 2019 Applicants - 2015 - 2016
Very conversational. I honestly think the only standard question was "Why Columbia" and we just chatted after that. The NYC question seemed less of a prepped question and more of a conversational flow, but I've seen other applicants say they were also asked about living there.RZ5646 wrote:That's surprising. There wont be any behavioral stuff like "tell me about a time..." The questions will be targeted at your interests, work experience and extracurriculars. It's just like 10-15 mins of 'tell me about yourself.'RZ5646 wrote:That's surprising. I agree with u about what u said with regards to 'why ny'. Like u said, like, 'why not?' So i think the ny answer just needs to survive cursory scrutiny

Can corroborate what texasellewoods here said re: having an answer ready for why NYC If you have lived there before (or maybe even in another major east coast city) it's probably not that big of a deal or even going to come up. But my interviewer also seemed very interested in gauging how much/thoroughly I had thought through the idea of relocating to Manhattan.RZ5646 wrote:That's surprising. Held. Damn. Thought I was in the sweet spot numbers wise (barely above 75th gpa, lsat between 50th and 75th), so I don't think this is YP at all. Columbia would (would have?) been my top choice likely with a bit of scholarship $, so I'm disappointed like the rest of y'all. Guess I'll be sending that LOCI in ASAP.
Also, do people know how quickly holds tend to be resolved. The email says no later than April 25th, but do we know if in past years people have heard back earlier?

At this point I assume it is either a rejection or a surprising acceptance. But with my stats it has to be the former :/courtleigh24 wrote:same position...gobears!! wrote:No hold status, no waitlist email, no admit email, no admit package, and no rejection letter. Am I missing any others?
