I was interested in this as well (not only for Michigan but for other schools with named schollies as well). I couldn't find anything in any past threads, but I guess theoretically they could do it. Guessing you would likely need a full ride or close to it from a higher ranked or peer school for them to consider it. If you were to get the Darrow would you attend for sure? If so, I think being open with them about this couldn't hurt. Only way to find out is to ask!
Also interested. A Darrow would make me go, but a dean's scholarship, while very attractive, still leaves a significant CoA that gives me pause.
Didn't they say in scholarship letter that "we do not increase merit awards once they are made"?
Others have suggested that isn't strictly true. Scholarshipping is usually a dynamic and cooperative process because you can't predict ahead of time who will actually end up attending / what other offers they'll have.

edit: Also, technically dean's --> darrow wouldn't be increasing an existing award, but changing the existing award for a new one.
I'm interested in hearing from the people who "suggested that isn't strictly true." i.e. are these people who successfully negotiated w/ Michigan? i.e. are these people speculating or do they have first hand info on the topic?
Probably just speculation (it was somewhere in this thread), but it makes sense to me.

In interviews Dean Z has said that there are times when they consider what other schools have offered and amend their offer. Everyone at Michigan has been wonderful, I'd say ask. It can't hurt.

I checked the C/O 2017 thread and folks started reporting being WL'ed at around 4pm, so maybe not out of the woods yet.

Now you're going to have me neurotically refreshing this thread, my email, and LSN all day  :|

I've never heard of this happening. Which isn't to say that it's absolutely impossible, but I'd venture that it's extremely unlikely.

I would guess it could happen if a number of people who get offered the Darrow turn it down

Yes. I think their server refreshes with people that added as "admits" sometime during the day before, and it automatically sends the 6:00am emails

Yes, with a Darrow/full tuition I would DEFINITELY go. I have the highest Deans Scholarship now, but like RZ said even though it doesn't look like the leftover tuition is thaaatt expensive, the CoA is still kind of grimace-worthy

My dean's scholarship leaves a substantial amount of tuition debt--just under under half. I really, really love Michigan so I'm hoping they may be able to take notice of other offers.

Yep, ~18k for a Michigan JD sounds great until you realize that CoL adds another ~30k on top of that. I have significant debt already from undergrad and I'm trying to keep my student loans in the five-figure range, so I don't think I can commit with that sort of offer. But if they offer me a Darrow, I'll mail in my deposit the next day.

Just got hit with the WL email. Excited that I'm on the fence, but still sad it's not an acceptance. I'll definitely accept a spot, best of luck to everyone else!

Ugh, I already got rejected from Duke today and now I'm actually, like physically stressing the F out...

Is it on the status checker already? I'm so scared... I'm still at complete..
