Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Virginia just sent me another email reiterating my fee waiver, and extending my deadline ton March 15th. I had considered applying there, but decided against it because I didn't think I'd get in. Is it actually worth a shot? I have a 168, 3.66 and strong softs. Non-URM.

Was literally about to post the same thing. 168, 3.77. Worth it or are they just trying to reject some people last minute to make their numbers look better?

They are sending them out to increase their application numbers (and likely their yield rate). That doesn't preclude it being worthwhile for you to apply. Even if you were accepted, however, you'd likely be at or close to sticker.allentx wrote:PN-G bamakid wrote:Virginia just sent me another email reiterating my fee waiver, and extending my deadline ton March 15th. Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
I would actually say with your guys' numbers you definitely have a realistic shot. It's hard to know at this point in the cycle, but if they like your application they may very well still accept you as it appears that they are still sending out acceptances. Based on what has been posted on TLS, it sounds like U.Va. is definitely running low on scholarship funding at this point, but getting in so late would not necessarily preclude you from receiving a scholarship. You may still be able to get something if enough people who have been offered scholarships end up withdrawing and free up scholarships to go around. Anyways, I would say don't let your numbers hold you back from applying if you're interested at all in attending. You have literally nothing to lose except the $24 LSAC CAS fee or however much it is.allentx wrote:PN-G bamakid wrote:Virginia just sent me another email reiterating my fee waiver, and extending my deadline ton March 15th. So I'm guessing now is pretty late in the game for acceptances right? I've got a 170, 3.6X and I applied in early Jan. Safe to say I'm not getting in?

Keep faith! I'm a double 75th who applied late December - no news. Statistically we're bound for the WL, but at this point it probably has a lot to do with their lack of money.ticklemesilly wrote:So I'm guessing now is pretty late in the game for acceptances right? Double 75th- maybe they are waiting until some money is freed up to offer you a scholarship.nickhalden wrote:Keep faith! I'm a double 75th who applied late December - no news. I haven't been waitlisted (nor have I heard anything). Should I? I was going to visit, but UVA closed for the storm.Mack.Hambleton wrote:did u send a LOCInickhalden wrote:Keep faith! if you're able to arrange a new visit, definitely do it. try requesting an interview while you are on campus. i know that that method has worked before.nickhalden wrote:I haven't been waitlisted (nor have I heard anything). if you can't arrange a visit again, write a LOCI. if you are in danger of YP, all that is seemingly holding you back from an acceptance is that they don't believe you are interested enough to actually go there. don't let them believe that! demonstrate interest!

Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
At this stage it is a moot point. UVA is allegedly out of money, and I won't attend at sticker. I will attempt to visit after their break, but there's nothing that I can do to fill back their coffers. It's frankly stunning that a T14 school would run out of money by first week of March. I would have absolutely attended with a Dillard.creedbratton wrote:if you're able to arrange a visit, definitely do it. try requesting an interview while you are on campus. i know that that method has worked before.

You don't think some of that money offered will be rejected as applicants turn to other schools and they can then offer more to other candidates? Maybe why it's taking so long to accept you is that they are waiting for more money to be returned to them in the hopes of sharing it your way.nickhalden wrote:At this stage it is a moot point. Theoretically, yes. But I'm skeptical. I'll visit to show my earnest and genuine interest, but I can't see this ending in my favor. Remember that the deposit deadline is in late April and that schools build scholly withdrawals into the amount they offer intitially.imKMart wrote:You don't think some of that money offered will be rejected as applicants turn to other schools and they can then offer more to other candidates? I figure I'm likely a ding or WL, but I have a question anyway.
What's TCR when you have an offer on the table that you would accept and a seat deposit deadline approaching, but you're waiting for acceptance and/or scholarship info from a higher ranked school like UVA? Double-seat depositing is frowned on and in some cases, voids your offer to some schools, right?

If you're waiting on an acceptance you're fine depositing at the first school, and then withdrawing later. If you're waiting on scholarships, you can ask for an extension (and you can ask for an extension in the first scenario too, obviously).

I wanted to see what people from 4 different schools thought of that question. I don't see how that is so unreasonable.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
