Hey everyone, I received a held letter today. Any idea how we should feel about a held? I'm a 166 / 3.75 non URM. I had my interview on 12/26. Any follow up advice or thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sam

Better than being waitlisted, worse than being accepted.SGrant723 wrote:Hey everyone, I received a held letter today. Any idea how we should feel about a held? I'm a 166 / 3.75 non URM. I had my interview on 12/26. Any follow up advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

But in all seriousness, GULC has a very large class size, and they are most likely going to have to admit a lot of splitter/reverse-splitter candidates in couples. They probably held you because your GPA is very near their 75th. I'm thinking that people who are held for the end of February probably stand a good chance of being admitted once most of the 170+s have made commitments to higher ranked schools. We probably stand little to no chance for any scholarship money, though.

Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
GULC has historically been pretty bad with scholarship money, but they're going to have to change that if they want to keep their medians/class size. Especially now with schools more highly-ranked and better chances of biglaw having dropped to 169.alwayssunnyinfl wrote:We probably stand little to no chance for any scholarship money, though.
It's going to be interesting.

Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Yeah, but I'm thinking that money is going to go to people over both medians (as opposed to the famous splitter-friendly Midwestern schools.) A 166 probably won't garner anything substantive from GULC, and neither will a sub-3.0 GPA. But your'e right, all we can do is sit back and enjoy the ride! (Oh yeah, and to SGrant, obligatory "retake! That GPA is too good to waste" comment.)twentypercentmore wrote:GULC has historically been pretty bad with scholarship money, but they're going to have to change that if they want to keep their medians/class size. Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Always - I appreciate the advice.
I've actually got a few LSATs under my belt. Had a 160 and then a 166 and cancels. Had some bad luck with illness when I was first taking. It was killing me though, went from five to ten 168s to 170s on practice tests to a 166! I've already taken two years off though. Kind of thinking now or never! I'm hoping this cycle being low will help me out too. Any other advice or should I just hang in there?

For now, all you can do is hang in there. However, my biggest piece of advice is don't go this year if you don't get a good offer. You were testing high, and those few points can translate into big money. This is one decision you should not rush. Either way, though, good job retaking! 6 point job is nothing to scoff at.

I'm in! I'm in! Everyone who said the mailing was a good sign, you were right! Thank you! This is one of my top two schools and I definitely expected a rejection, I'm so freaking happy
Good luck to all who are still waiting!

Honestly for you I'd say a held is a great sign. You're 4 below their LSAT median, and 1 below their LSAT 25%ile, and only barely above the GPA median. Optimistic view is that they must like something about you and don't want to reject you straight out. Cynical view is that holding onto you as insurance in an uncertain cycle and they'll let you go once they meet their goals later in the cycle.SGrant723 wrote:Hey everyone, I received a held letter today. Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
i didn't think the 75ths mattered. they don't factor into the USNWR rankings, only the medians do, and the georgetown median is 3.73.alwayssunnyinfl wrote:Better than being waitlisted, worse than being accepted.SGrant723 wrote:Hey everyone, I received a held letter today. Falling - that's a good way to look at it. Based on lawschoolnumbers i'm seeing some 3.79-3.83 166's accepted and some 3.73-3.77 167's accepted. So I guess I just have to hope everything falls in place for me.

I'm in! I received the acceptance letter in the mail today. I applied for part-time but was accepted into full-time. I honestly wasn't expecting to hear back so quickly. I applied in the first week of December and hadn't heard anything from GULC since. This is so exciting! 3.55/169/4 years work experience

This is a question you asked 2 days ago and the answer to it:
hohenheim wrote:No, it doesn't. My checker is still at UR2 on 1/7 and I just got the letter today.az21833 wrote:does it say DLS when they mail out that tiny white envelope
I'm excited to go to the open house in a few weeks! I know this was posted earlier, but what is the timing for scholarships and a big admissions packet?
I don't understand. Why are you asking again?
Please, please, please read the threads you are posting in. The other question you asked was also answered on the last page.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
