Cordel was awesome on the phone. I kid you not, he talked to me for like 20 minutes about my app. Congrats to you!MustacheMarshall wrote:Got an email asking me to give the office a call to talk about my application, called back, answered a few questions, and IN!!![]()
I've said this in a few threads, but I've seriously felt forgotten for the past six weeks, so this decision was so unexpected and AMAZING! I spoke with Cordel Faulk, and he was great. He was super nice, and I'm not sure if my adrenaline was making me loopy, but he seemed genuinely happy to be talking to me and admitting me. He had obviously read my application and was pretty specific with his questions/comments. It was wonderful and made me even more excited for UVA.
FWIW, I submitted/went complete early November, had heard absolutely nothing until today, no Why UVA, stats in profile.
I hope all the other members of "the forgotten" hear back, too!!

Consensus of last two pages- we shouldn't send in a LOCI/Why UVA if we haven't heard anything for less than two months? I went complete at UVA 12/5 and am now wondering if I should send a LOCI/Why UVA (didn't write one with my original app).
Thoughts?

I went complete 11/19 and I've been forgotten ever since. I sent in a Why UVA a few days ago. They added the essay to my file, and I'm back to the waiting. Can't see how it could hurt.twinkletoes16 wrote:Consensus of last two pages- we shouldn't send in a LOCI/Why UVA if we haven't heard anything for less than two months? I've got nothing better to do tonight, so might as well. Thanks! Can someone PM me where I should be emailing it to?

Don't be afraid to call them if you have a question about an email address. They've heard this before and it's quicker than guessing or waiting for a response.

And Faulk rocks. He totally messed with me during my call. I can appreciate that.

IN!!!! 170/3.56, RD, non-URM, applied on 1/7/13.
Got an email at work today asking me to call, proceeded to have a heart attack. When work permitted and cardiac arrest had passed, I called back. The Director of Admissions, Cordel Faulk, is so so nice...he was much easier to talk to than admissions people from other schools.
I'm not diverse in any typical or meaningful way, and I have no compelling story. From the conversation, I am 99% sure my "Why UVA" is what did it for me. Never fear, fellow splitters, there is some love for us out there even if we don't ED
Hope to see ya'll in Charlottesville!

So people take the 'optional essay' to be the Why UVA section? Might bust one of those out today.

Can we petition to get the school to change its website? It seems way too contemporary/ 'Kids R Us'-sih and misses the school's history and prestige. TJ would be horrified. Am I the only one that feels this way?

From a UX perspective it's actually not that bad. U Penn's is better though.MrHairyLegs wrote:Can we petition to get the school to change its website? You see, I find it awful from a UX perspective. Far too many links everywhere, and some redirect you to UVA (not UVA Law) without notice.digifly wrote:From a UX perspective it's actually not that bad. I should have pointed out that "not that bad" meant relative to the competition. Colleges pretty much all have shitty sites. Way too much info to handle. In that regard, I don't mind theirs.elblufer wrote:You see, I find it awful from a UX perspective. I agree that it shouldn't redirect to UG, though.

They don't have a men's rowing team. You're referring to their women's team.HankBashir wrote:Their Men's Rowing team is one of the best in the nation, fwiwgingerbreadsmouse wrote:Awesome! Good luck. They do have a Men's rowing team. It's not NCAA, however (since there's no NCAA men's rowing). TBH, I don't know how good their womens' team is, since my team didn't compete with them. I'm specifically referring to the men's team.djwjddl wrote:They don't have a men's rowing team. I stand corrected. strange that they're not listed on the main UVA athletics site. Also, I think it's a bit of an overstatement to cal UVA men's rowing team as "one of the best in the nation," although i guess technically anything can be considered one of the best. UVA rowing is miles and miles behind programs like berkeley, Washington, Stanford, Harvard, you get the idea.HankBashir wrote:[

Re: UVA c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
I guess "one of the best" is a bit vague. I'd say UVA is top 25 of all collegiate rowing teams, based upon their performance at regattas that attract national and international competition, like Head of the Charles and the Henley Royal Regatta. Since men's collegiate rowing doesn't have a unified national championship anymore, it's a bit harder to compare between teams like Washington, Harvard, Cal, etc and club teams like Virginia's Men's teams outside of regattas like these.djwjddl wrote:I stand corrected. strange that they're not listed on the main UVA athletics site. I do agree that there's a large amount of difference between teams like Washington and UVA. When they raced at the 2012 Windermere Cup, Washington beat both UVA and the Argentina National Team (who almost tied) by almost 15 seconds.
