Not that it is or is not unconstitutional.mrgstephe wrote:I agree that no one's mind will be changed, but as aspiring members of the legal community, it seems pretty irresponsible to be tossing around claims 'unconstitutionality' and 'apparent overreaches of executive authority' because of an emotional/moral disagreement with EOs.pretzeltime wrote:I think the legality of this EO is up for debate (and citing one prominent scholar neither proves nor denies that it is legal, the courts will decide that)

So maybe we should all agree to fight about this when we're 7 beers deep at Bar Review, k?
There is undisputed legal precedent, and that's the fact. We don't have to like it, but claiming something to the contrary is just silly.
At very best, it is *possibly* questionable - not straight up unconstitutional.

Yep! I think I just missed your post between writing my first response and your posting your US v Texas argument.notorious_mig wrote:mrgstephe wrote:I agree that no one's mind will be changed, but as aspiring members of the legal community, it seems pretty irresponsible to be tossing around claims 'unconstitutionality' and 'apparent overreaches of executive authority' because of an emotional/moral disagreement with EOs.pretzeltime wrote:I think the legality of this EO is up for debate (and citing one prominent scholar neither proves nor denies that it is legal, the courts will decide that)

Thanks for including the Eric Posner link, I'm gonna check it out. But please also note that I did respond to your previous post not strictly with emotional/moral disagreement but with precedent, US v Texas. I'm with you that as aspiring members of the legal community we've got to make legal arguments rather than emotional/moral ones, and I'm pretty certain I did that in response to your post above.
As it stands, I'm definitely not qualified to make a strong legal argument either way (as indicated by the 0L status), but I do agree it's rough for a lot of people, and I hope your dad doesn't have any complications because of it.
And now to avoid derailing the thread - WHERE IS MY JS1????

Listen y'all, it's February aka JS2 hotzone and it's super rude to bump this thread a bunch of times unless it's to say JS just called ya. You're going to give people heart failure. So pls just take it to the lounge, or better yet, somewhere productive.

Just got a call from a cambridge number. It's really annoying when you live in MA so anyone could be calling you from Cambridge.
I haven't even gotten a JS1 so there is no reason why someone would call me instead of emailing me but it still made my heart jump

So if I can figure out that number, they're obligated to give me a JS2 right? I'm sure I could try dialing 10000 numbers if it guaranteed getting ingoldenbear2020 wrote:A JS2 would be from a 617-495-xxxx number.ashrice13 wrote:Just got a call from a cambridge number. sorry if this question has already been answered but i just had my JS1 this morning and am too emotionally fatigued to go digging through this thread, so... how long do people generally have to wait to hear back post-JS1, whether WL, ding, or JS2? HLS is definitely a reach for me - idk how i got JS1 in the first place but it gave me hope and now i'm anxious (already)

I have no answer but thank you for giving me hope - we have almost the same stats. Hope it went well for you! And keep us updated if you get JS2.fam1994 wrote:sorry if this question has already been answered but i just had my JS1 this morning and am too emotionally fatigued to go digging through this thread, so... how long do people generally have to wait to hear back post-JS1, whether WL, ding, or JS2? Re: Harvard Law c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
There have only been two rounds of JS2s and no WL or dings yet (as far as I know). So there is not enough data to give you an answer. Most likely it will be a long wait because there are many people who have been waiting months to get a decision after their JS1.fam1994 wrote:sorry if this question has already been answered but i just had my JS1 this morning and am too emotionally fatigued to go digging through this thread, so... how long do people generally have to wait to hear back post-JS1, whether WL, ding, or JS2? Last year's average wait was about 7 weeks. You'd probably hear back in mid to late March at the earliest. The OP has last year's wave datesfam1994 wrote:sorry if this question has already been answered but i just had my JS1 this morning and am too emotionally fatigued to go digging through this thread, so... how long do people generally have to wait to hear back post-JS1, whether WL, ding, or JS2? Thank you!! This was super helpful. To pay it forward a bit, I had my interview earlier this week and was asked the following:HowdyDoo wrote:Had my interview yesterday! Went well, the questions were fairly easy compared to what I had imagined (they asked what was my main overall takeaway from college, about my my job after college, and what specific type of law I'm interested in) and also what I thought stood out most from my application.tomgirl wrote:Second!minkbrigade wrote:If folks who have already had their interview feel comfortable elaborating on the questions they were asked here, I'd love that!sadie2law wrote:I had my JS1 yesterday. Hopeful that it went well. My interviewer was lovely. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
Applied 12/11, interview request 1/18, interview 1/25
[for the record, I applied Jan 3rd, have exactly =75 LSAT and GPA. Good luck to us all!![]()
]
-To tell them a bit about my job
-What about my work experience led me to law school
-What personal characteristics and qualities I would bring to HLS
-A time at work where I had to revise my initial approach to something
It was super conversational, and my interviewer was friendly and relatable. I also had an interview with Columbia earlier this week, and felt like Harvard's was a way more friendly experience and more of what I would typically expect in an interview--i.e., more "tell me about a time when..." and less, "Why do you have x, y, z on your resume?"

Wow that is really considerate. Well done, HLS ad-comms.blahblah123 wrote:+1 on this idea. I come from a country that is affected by the recent Muslim ban, and I received a phone call from JS herself asking me how things are going and if HLS could be of assistance in any way. Super impressed.unrelated wrote:I think you have to enroll now.xnsch wrote:Wow that was incredibly thoughtful. Got a package today from HLS that contained a book on the modern history of same-sex marriage litigation in the U.S. along with a note from the author (HLS professor) on the title page. I wrote about how being gay had given me an interest in civil rights battles in the courts and thought this was an incredibly nice and personal gesture and it's nice to know they really do care about the content of our applications
