Second - I have no idea where the idea that there's widespread "URM fraud" has come from. People listening to Trump too much? My impression is that Columbia is moving towards interviewing all applicants as Harvard does. Haven't seen any proof that it's just bubble applicants, scholarship candidates or URM claimants, haha.pretzeltime wrote:i mean is there literally any actual evidence that Columbia is doing this?

NO there is not. People on this site just over analyze and make BS up to compensate for answers they do not know. Lying about URM is a serious allegation that shouldn't be just tossed around without stating any facts

In with Butler and PIF consideration! Email time-stamped at 1:32pm, applied 11/18, interviewed 12/22. LSAT > 75, 25 < GPA > 50.

Re: Columbia c/o 2020 applicants (2016-2017)
Can we just drop the URM subject. There is no reason this conversation should have even been started. I agree with the OP and people are suffering from a case of Trump and just making shit up to make themselves feel better for coming up with answers. There is no increase in people lying about URM. Period

Where is the data for this "it appears almost all URMs are getting interviewed?"scoot456 wrote:After going through the interview, I really don't think that they're trying to be a blocker. They have legitimate questions about your application and they want to speak with you. Receiving an interview is only a good thing in that they did not have to take more time on your application if they were "unsure" or thought you're a "bubble candidate." They already have sufficient info to make their decision without speaking with you for 20 minutes. If anything, it felt more like gauging interest in Columbia and adding a few more details to your app before making a final decision.mm2368 wrote:interviews go to a wide range of people for a wide range of reasons; someone on here keeps suggesting that it's borderline or scholarship people who get it. that's not the case and you can get the receipts from the deans themselves. it's simply not true.del93 wrote:Interview for Columbia with 3.9x GPA and 170 LSAT, URM as well. Very worried that I'm a borderline candidate since it doesn't seem like I have high enough LSAT for scholarship interviews. Thoughts?
you'll be okay, your numbers are solid, and if you just stay calm and be yourself for the interview, you'll be okay. people with and without interviews have been rejected and accepted, so it's not an indication in any direction. you're good! breathe!
On another note, if you look at past years, a majority of those interviewed did end up being admitted and only a few got waitlisted. Did not see any flat out rejects, but I'm sure they're out there.
This year, it really does look like they're interviewing a decent portion of their applicant pool and it appears almost all URMs are getting interviewed, except those above the medians/75ths.

The idea that Columbia administration is anything but ultra liberal is a shocker to me (double alum) as well. L I cant even imagine how anyone could even leap to the conclusions made in this thread.'pretzeltime wrote:the idea of a Columbia interviewer trying to sniff out someone's true ethnic identity in an interview just made me lol
If anything I would be more concerned that admissions might identify the posters as idiots and hold these baseless allegations against them.

I mean, there have been a few -- and I mean A FEW -- posts in the URM topic area that are things like "All my life I thought I was white but my great-great-grandfather was actually part ___. Does this mean I'm a URM?" But I imagine that's nothing new and I also imagine most adcomms know better than to assume that you can just look at someone and know whether or not they're a URM
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
