That was so fast: do you periodically search your name to see who is talking about you?Lavitz wrote:Hixylocarp wrote:nothing in particular, it's just always nice when there's someone who somehow just knows everything about past cycles (e.g. lavitz) and you seem like you could be that type of person haha

Xylocarp,
I'm so excited for you. I was just looking at your profile on LSN. You are already "complete" at decent amount of schools. Cannot wait for you to receive your acceptances
Did you end up doing the UVA Skype interview?

Hey guys! How crucial is it to have an LOR from an employer (as an addition to 2 academic ones) if you've been out of undergrad for 2+ years? Like I'm sure it helps, but how bad is it to not have one?

Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
from what I've gathered so far only columbia makes explicit they want one (see discussion in the columbia applicants thread), I figure you should be fine, not in the last place cause many schools make explicit they prefer academic letters anywaydasani13 wrote:Hey guys! I think anywhere from 1-3 years out of undergrad is fine, but for 4+ years, I think a letter from your employer is more necessary.dasani13 wrote:Hey guys! Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
Schools prefer to hear about how you can do in an academic setting, making academic LOR even better. Although having the employer one will help but its not a huge deal if you can't get one.
I did 2 academic and 1 work related. For the schools that only accept two I'm going to submit the academics.

Ugh... I'm really struggling with this. I'm over seven years out of undergrad and can't really find an academic LOR. I don't live near enough to visit old professors in person and wasn't really close to any of them. The one I've reached out to hasn't even responded.imKMart wrote:Schools prefer to hear about how you can do in an academic setting, making academic LOR even better. I've got some really strong employment LORs and I'm not really targeting T14, so hopefully adcoms won't care too much.

7 years out is a reasonable amount of time where it won't kill you if you don't have one. Schools don't expect you to remain friends with them for years outside of UG.whitespider wrote:Ugh...
