UR2 2/18
Looks like non PT decisions are finally coming out.
Any sense of chances of getting off the wait list?

I was right to be concerned about being on UR1 for 4 months then UR2 for 2 1/2 weeks. WL'd today.

First post but long time lurker here...
I'm sitting at a 1/24 complete date (still got a long wait ahead of me haha i know). Duke is pretty much my top choice - I applied to the JD/MA program which fits in really nicely with my interests... Any thoughts as to if I should submit a "Why Duke?" or does the application to JD/MA show interest enough? We had to write an extra essay for the grad school, but idk if the law school adcomms read it. If they do, I feel like a "Why Duke" might sound a little repetitive.
I'm super nervous - even as a URM (PR), I have VERY borderline numbers (in profile) and applied really late :/

That seems like it might a legitimate question to call and ask the admissions office.islandrose0913 wrote:First post but long time lurker here...

Please put me under review Duke, I beg of you.
And to sprinkle a little hope for those with low LSAT scores: I know a current 1L at Duke who told me he got into Duke with a 164 on his LSAT. He didn't specify his GPA, but it was apparently not crazy high or anything like that. He re-took the LSAT in February to get off the waitlists at various schools and did even worse than his initial 164. He thinks it was a letter of rec that got him off the waitlist.

Just checked my status checker and found out they sent me a merit letter 2 days ago. Cant wait to get it. I assume if they send a letter that means you are gonna get aid?

I imagine they'll send all aid applicants an official letter because it will break down loan offers as well as scholarships.lawschoolboundfuture wrote:Just checked my status checker and found out they sent me a merit letter 2 days ago. My understanding is that everyone who applied for merit aid will receive a letter whether or not they are actually receiving a merit award. If it was sent two days ago though, it shouldn't be too much longer before you know either way.

Might be a function of their relatively late notice and this people not updating. Also nobody likes Duke or attends so maybe they don't bother updatingslack_academic wrote:For people who have already heard, does aid seem consistent with previous years? Looking through LSN, merit aid doesn't seem very predictable at Duke anyway.

Supposedly they are one of if not the most generous t14s as far as percentage of the class that gets aid.

small class + located outside any major market i guessslack_academic wrote:I've definitely noticed Duke isn't well represented or regarded on this site. I'm not really sure. Seems like a pretty great school the more I look at it and pretty competitive with top schools in terms of employment prospects. Maybe it's the Southern thing?BigZuck wrote:Might be a function of their relatively late notice and this people not updating. Honestly, the kids who go to Duke don't even like Duke. I was a member of the slightly lighter blue cohort down the road, so call me biased, but my roommate/best friend graduated from Duke Law and that's the general feeling that I got. Duke isn't very many people's first choice, and you can feel it.
