Not sure. But it was definitely not your usual email.Opie wrote:Why didn't I get this? I'm a non-trad with kids.YankeeFan2 wrote:So what do y'all think about this. I got an email the other day from a law professor from another law school (not Iowa) but they went to Iowa for their JD. The email shared that they would be happy to discuss with me their experience at Iowa and hoped that I would also choose Iowa. Now....what was a bit odd was that the person had a very similar background as a non-traditional student in the same field of work as me and even mentioned moving their children to Iowa City. They also shared that they moved to Iowa City with their spouse and children and the number of children and gender of their children are the same as mine. Now, that seems to really be stretching into their alumni network.

Re: IOWA 2012
Hmm...I emailed the lady that emailed me about my scholarship offer. Maybe I'll try re-sending it to that address. Thanks!buckythebadger wrote:I emailed law-financialaid@uiowa.edu and then Dean Byrd responded this morning. At a different ASW someone told me that they asked for the stipulations to be removed and the emails sounded very similar. My guess is that they already have it written up and just copy and pasted it. If you haven't heard back in awhile, maybe that is a good thing? or they possibly just forgot to respond to the email.shredderrrrrr wrote:Really? Who exactly did you email it to?buckythebadger wrote:I emailed them yesterday about removing the stipulations and they responded this morning with a pretty generic email about how they are unwilling to do so. Looks like I'll have to cross Iowa off my list

I agree with this, but I figure when trying to decide between two great offers with stipulations, you might as well try to make one advantageous over the other.nickjive wrote:If I were fortunate enough to have a scholarship I would use the stips to further my motivation to perform AT LEAST in the top 1/3 so I could come out of law school with a job....

Anyone getting excited for the upcoming ASW? I'm itching to get out of Austin and get back to the Great State for a weekend.

Haha in all seriousness, Austin is one of the best cities in the United States, especially for young people. But home is home, and I like to get back now and then.
PS-- GO SPURS GO! I was at the Spurs v Bulls game Wed night. Magic. My family has season tickets, and I make it a point to make the trips half dozen times each semester.

I apologize... this was probably asked earlier in the thread, but I didn't want to sift through 65 pages to find out
Any word on how easy/realistic it is to get in-state for 2L and 3L?

I was told by staff that it's about an 80% chance that you get RA positions if you are out of stateDocHawkeye wrote:Become an RA.burndtscorcho wrote:I apologize... this was probably asked earlier in the thread, but I didn't want to sift through 65 pages to find outAny word on how easy/realistic it is to get in-state for 2L and 3L?

For what its worth, Iowa City Lodge, No. 4 is not too far from campus and has some younger members. They're always receptive to visitors especially if you're familliar with the work. They also have a rather strking lodge room, done beautifully in hardwood.Opie wrote:More than one, Bro.burndtscorcho wrote:Nice to find a fellow brother on TLS. *draws hand across neck*DocHawkeye wrote:Become an RA.burndtscorcho wrote:I apologize... this was probably asked earlier in the thread, but I didn't want to sift through 65 pages to find outAny word on how easy/realistic it is to get in-state for 2L and 3L?
Work on the brief that is due on Monday has made me wonder if there is, indeed, any help for the widow's son. Alas, back to labor from refreshment...

Re: IOWA 2012
FWIW you can secure a RA position in a department outside of the law school or be a TA in an undergraduate course and get the instate standing. I believe the administration said last year there were only three people from the 2L and 3L classes that did not secure instate and it was because of their own stupidity.
The vast majority of people are RA's their 2L year for residency. Most of the out of staters secure instate residency their 3L year through executive positions for journals or co-curricular programs like moot court etc. (Basing this last part off of the numbers the administration gave out at their meeting).

I sent an e-mail Friday asking about my application status. Its been 2 months with no words. Offered to write LOCI. I guess we'll see what happens.

FWIW I was accepted the same day as ASW with a full ride.. They dropped the ball on my application as well. Iowa and Colorado were notoriously slow my cycle.

That's just as good as a note from Dean Byrd.
