got my offer, and it's less than my offer at michigan, so no thanks. are we SURE they dont negotiate?

why wouldn't a school negotiate? i read back a few pages and get that the office and everyone else says that they don't, but in the end doesn't that hurt vandy more than help? with enough $$ i would go to vandy over columbia and be happy, but for a little less than 1/2 tuition (60k over 3 years) there's no way! i don't get this hard-line approach coming from a school teaching the art of negotiation. they're missing their chance to get debt-adverse students that can boost their rankings to matriculate...(cue end of rant )

Your 177 doesnt help their median any more than a 170. Thats why they dont care to pay extra for it. Go to Columbia. Your 177 counts there for at least as a 174 or whatever their top quartile is...

Exactly. When you come tot he negotiating table you have a max amount that you are willing to spend to get what you want. They assign scholarship amount to you based on your worth to them. You aren't worth more than that to them. It's not like Michigan or Columbia want you so bad that they are willing to pay you more than Vandy. They have a different budget, different need for numbers etc. Dont take it personally - go to Columbia if you think Vandy isn't worth it to you and be happy that you are going to a top 5 school.

Also - dont think for one second that law school is going to teach you the art of negotiation - or anything useful for that matter.

Deadline is May 2nd, which is the normal seat deposit deadline.

Yeah, looks like. The ASW is April 8, right? And Vandy will cover some of the costs? Cornell looks like it would be too expensive to visit that weekend. Did I hear correctly that they'll set people up with a student host to stay with? Because that would be totally baller.

Yeah they'll cover $200 if you don't get it preapproved. I emailed and got my $350 flight covered completely. They'll give you $50 a night for hotel and can put you up with a student for Thursday or Friday night if you want.

I don't see how it could hurt you to try. As long as you attempt to negotiate without being a complete asshole -- shouldn't be hard to do -- then there's really no reason that they would reduce or rescind your offer, I'd imagine.

I'm really having trouble figuring out how Vanderbilt determines how much $$ people get... I got the $89,000 but it seems most people with similar numbers got the $72,000. There are even people with numbers slightly higher than mine (both LSAT & GPA higher) who got less than I did. I'm not complaining haha, just pretty confused because tbh my softs are nothing special and I'm not URM. Anyone know why that might be? Not that it matters I guess but I'm curious.

Think I'll be booking my flight to Nashville this Friday. Thinking I'll be staying at the Scarritt Bennett Center for a night and going to request to stay with a student host another night. Might splurge for the upgraded room since it looks like the standard room doesn't have internet

Can we get a count of who will be at the April ASD? Maybe we can meetup for drinks. I know that flips will be easy to identify, not sure about anyone else.

Haha, I just emailed to get an upgraded room at the Scarritt Bennett for the April ASD. Pretty dang excited!
