You're right, the CEO number is 3. SMU Law recently announced that 5 of our grads are billionaires, so that's probably how the mix-up occurred. Trust me, I'm sure everyone at ASD will hear about both accolades multiple times.graceful1 wrote: Harvard Business School - 5 CEOs

I think the pitch was 3 Fortune CEOs. More than Harvard Law School, and second only to Harvard Business School. It's pretty impressive to have more CEOs than any law school.

I think #50 still counts as tier one. But you know, since they got rid of the tiers and now rank the first 100 as national schools (lol yeah right), and the next 43 as regional (okay?), and the rest as ???( I don't know...local?), I'm pretty sure none of this matters.timmah427 wrote:http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandr ... w-rankings

The rankings are so stupid. Somehow UMiami went from 71... to 60.... and this year they're 77. And now Emory has dropped to 30 all the sudden.Justathought wrote:I think #50 still counts as tier one. It won't matter one bit in Dallas.
It kind of sucks if you want to go beyond Texas, but it won't matter within.

Re: SMU 2011
Agree with the first part, disagree with the second part. We are talking #48 to # 50. Even considering the fact that its still tier 1 under the old system, its such a minuscule drop. I can't imagine anyone would say, "Well I would have hired him, but SMU is clearly on the decline as evidenced by their two point drop. Screw this guy!"kalvano wrote:It won't matter one bit in Dallas.

On the plus side. There is one ranking I care about - Law Firms rank SMU #41.

JustAThought...can you post the full list for what law firms rank? I can only see thru number 10.
2 spots won't matter for SMU. The name still does work in Texas, especially Dallas.

Frankly that's a pain in the neck, and I might get banned for it anyway. Why don't you PM me with some schools you're interested in?ClutchCity24 wrote:JustAThought...can you post the full list for what law firms rank? I can only see thru number 10.

This was mentioned in the resurrected 2010 thread- just 66% of SMU grads employed at graduation, according to 2012 USNWR rankings.
Compare to-
Texas 91%
Houston 75%
Emory 65%
Tulane 53%
Baylor 46%

Re: SMU 2011
So after a little bit of discussion, I'm wondering if it would be better to visit the school on a non-ASW day, to try to get a real vibe and all. If ASW is just a rehashing of all of their major pamphlet points, it might not be as truly informative about student culture, or anything for that matter.
I actually might try to visit on Thursday before ASW, then stick around for Friday ASW, but it does mean more time off of work. Thoughts?

Got the package in the mail. $11K/yr Dean's Scholarship with Good Standing. It is strange that there was a scholarship letter with the admission package. The voicemail they left said scholarship decisions would be made over the next few weeks and would come in a seperate letter. Is it that the Dean's Scholarship comes with the acceptance and other scholarship offers come later?
Sucks about the rankings, expecially the PT program. SMU is now way behind UH in the PT rankings. They are even behind DU. I don't understand the drop in PT when the FT program is ranked higher than both of those schools. Could it be that SMU doesn't put as much effort into the PT program and students? I would hate to spend this much money and be treated as a second class student.

Me too. Got 9k/yr. I wish there was better insight on why such a significant drop. I wonder if it's because the class size is bigger? or cost? hopefully not employment prospects.. I'm touring soon so I will ask some questions and try to figure out some stuff.scutarius wrote:Got the package in the mail. $11K/yr Dean's Scholarship with Good Standing.
