At least you guys aren't held (right?). I waited 9 weeks to find out I have to wait another 7 or so, only to probably be WLed and wait even longer.violaboy wrote:Many of us are there.rockchalk86 wrote:I'm at 11 weeks and counting

2bd in McClurg and 420 are about $2000/month, utilities aren't that bad in my opinion. Cable and internet is pretty cheap since RCN is packaged for the entire apartment. The most basic stuff is like $20/month, gas and water are usually free, electric will vary with weather, probably upwards $100 during winter and $50 for summer (it really depends on the size of your place though).homestyle28 wrote:I'm curious about those who already live in Chicago or are already set on NW...what kind of rent do you expect to pay? How far from the campus do you plan to live? I'll potentially have a wife and kid in tow and will need space which = $$$, so this is a pretty big concern for me.
I'm still not sure what to write. I gotz a 176, I can haz money?scribelaw wrote:Anyone else find the two mini-essays required to get financial aid or scholarships a little strange?
The first one was OK, about the project management. But the second one -- discuss our "position for merit aid and discuss your financial need for aid."
My position for merit aid?
Do they want to know if I have offers from other schools already? I'm at a loss for what to say, except that I really want merit aid.
I answered this one in 2 paragraphs, on touting all my achievements (by and large a recap of my CV with certain emphases). In the 2nd paragraph I talked about how poor I was and how my career aspirations would keep me poor.scribelaw wrote:Anyone else find the two mini-essays required to get financial aid or scholarships a little strange?

I guess I'm just going to write about how important financial considerations and debt are to me, etc. But on the other hand, I don't think coming off as entitled or whiny is going to help.Desert Fox wrote:I'm still not sure what to write. I'm even worse since I ED'd. I can't even threaten to go to IUB.scribelaw wrote:I guess I'm just going to write about how important financial considerations and debt are to me, etc. But on the other hand, I don't think coming off as entitled or whiny is going to help.Desert Fox wrote:I'm still not sure what to write. That's more or less what I said. I just went for it and told them I've gotten into NYU and full rides elsewhere.Holly Golightly wrote:Dear Northwestern,
U of I gave me money, and Dean Pless is really cool. I want to do PI and will be poor for the rest of my life. Help me out now so I don't have to take advantage of your LRAP later? kthnxbye
Sounds like we wrote basically the same things, and I'd think they get tons like this. Here's hoping we somehow stand out and get substantial grant/scholarship $$! I'd love to go to NU, but cannot stomach $210K in loans.homestyle28 wrote:

Yes, and it's helped make NU a realistic option for me! I can afford 200k in debt on my 50k year DA salary with this program...woohoo!beef wellington wrote:Anybody else read NU's new LRAP as incentivizing increased debt?
Here's hoping the bought all my claims to have cured cancer, discovered proofs for and against god's existence, etc.!eas331 wrote:Sounds like we wrote basically the same things, and I'd think they get tons like this. Thanks.ncct07 wrote:
Also, does anyone know how NU deals with negotiating offers after they announce them? Since submitting my essays I've heard about another scholarship offer, and if NU's offer is less than what I'll need in order to go, would it be worth mentioning this and asking them to reconsider, or are their initial offers pretty final?
You can ask them to reconsider. They have in the past.
Now there's a charge.
