Dinged. I promise this is not salty, but I really would have picked so many schools before this one. I am so glad I got a decision either way.
Good luck everyone!!

I'm a native Angeleno, went to Cal for undergrad and lived in SF for 2 years after. Public transit up there is nothing like it is down here. If your destination is on the line (whether it be BART or MUNI light rail), it's as good as anything you'll find in the US. In fact, when I moved back down to LA I dreaded driving, sitting in traffic, scavenging for parking again.Christinabruin wrote:Whew! I was hoping to find an excuse to avoid public transportation and you've just given me two, lol! Thank you to everyone who has helped out so far, if you guys ever need advice getting around LA hit me upcrookedsmile wrote:If you're heading to San Jose, BART is not the way to go, you'll def want your rental car for that. There are several areas 10-15 minutes away from campus where parking is free all day. I can PM you with specifics if you'd like.Christinabruin wrote:Thank you so much for all the advice! I am staying two full days so I was hoping to visit some friends in Berkeley/Livermore/San Jose with a rental car, so would that still be feasible without a rental car and taking BART/lyft/uber instead? I am from LA and dread public transportation so if it's feasible then I guess now is the time to overcome my phobia lolstaypuff wrote:FWIW, as a life long Bay Area native, I would take BART from SFO to your hotel and avoid renting a car unless you were planning on driving to locations outside of Berkeley / Oakland / SF / Albany / El Cerrito. BART + Lyft will cover you for a fraction of the cost, are convenient, and you'll get to see a different view of the area. The BART station at SFO is clean and orderly, and so is the one at Oakland Coliseum (which it sounds might be your stop). Berkeley is awesome, I hope you enjoy it!Christinabruin wrote:
Yikes thank you for the heads up! I guess I will drop my rental car off at a friend's place and take uber/BART from there. I'm flying in to SFO since the flight tickets were $250ish cheaper than flying directly into OAK, but my actual hotel is right near Oakland airport so I'm all over the place![]()

Yes I am. I was just curious to see if this was a wave for the people not under FR. So far it seems like this.sfn91 wrote:No I didn't haha.Mr_Chukes wrote:Sorry :C did you go FR though?sfn91 wrote:Dinged - a really nice e-mail though!

FR = faculty reviewpipipipi wrote:Can anyone explain what is Final Review?
My status checker changed to "under review" as of 1/31, which is listed as the current status date.
Strangely enough, I just received an email informing me that my application "was processed successfully and is now under review."
I thought I have already been under review for nearly a month...Is this final review? Or my file was ghosted and now found....
Thank you!!

FR = faculty review aka administrative review.
Thank you!
I guess my situation is wired and they might actually "lost" my file....
I sent an Why Berk more than one month ago and never heard anything from them, not even an email notifying me they have received my additional essay. Is this normal for Berkeley? Shall I call/email to confirm or resend the essay?
Thank you everyone!

Berkeley...tends to be a bit slow when it comes to processing info/responding to emails so this could be completely normal.

Exact same situation for me, and I have no clue what it means either. My status checker says that I've been under review since 1/31, but I just got the email an hour ago saying that my application is now under review. No date/status checker change.pipipipi wrote:Can anyone explain what is Final Review?

If it's faculty review that's not a bad thing! It means that the Dean read your application and has now sent it on to be further reviewed. Some people are immediately accepted by the dean whilst are immediately rejected. It means that he sees potential in your application, but is not positive and would like the faculty committee's input.bearedman8 wrote:Exact same situation for me, and I have no clue what it means either. But speaking of FR, has anyone heard of someone who was under FR being dinged today? Went FR 02/03 with the email saying a decision would be sent "around the 24th." Super super super nervous, Berkeley is my top choice :/

Dinged. Pleasant email from Dean Tom. It's cool. I'm a reverse splitter anyway so I kinda saw this coming. My only major disappointment is that I went to Cal for undergrad and love the campus/vibe/professors.
Congrats to all those who got in. Don't believe the haters, either. Berkeley is a cool town with a rich culture and history and San Francisco is a 20 minute train ride away.
