Yup, same thing happened to me. Stanford is the only other school that asked. Who knows what they make of them. I am wondering how they will interpret my marks since the country I was in had a different grading scale than the United States....

Interview for Columbia with 3.9x GPA and 170 LSAT, URM as well. Very worried that I'm a borderline candidate since it doesn't seem like I have high enough LSAT for scholarship interviews. Thoughts?

interviews go to a wide range of people for a wide range of reasons; someone on here keeps suggesting that it's borderline or scholarship people who get it. that's not the case and you can get the receipts from the deans themselves. it's simply not true.del93 wrote:Interview for Columbia with 3.9x GPA and 170 LSAT, URM as well. you'll be okay, your numbers are solid, and if you just stay calm and be yourself for the interview, you'll be okay. people with and without interviews have been rejected and accepted, so it's not an indication in any direction. you're good! breathe!

Were your study abroad grades not included on your undergrad transcript? Columbia never asked for my study abroad transcript, but I'm wondering if it's because my study abroad grades were included in my undergrad transcript (I studied abroad at a partner university)pretzeltime wrote:yeah it slowed my whole process up quite a bit, went complete like 3 months after i submitted. frustratingsigree wrote:They asked for mine over a month ago - so quiet since thenpretzeltime wrote:Yup, same thing happened to me. I mean, I'm at the same numbers but not URM and I wish I had received an invite to interview. Right now I'm sitting in radio silence.sigree wrote:Curious - when did you get the interview invite?del93 wrote:Interview for Columbia with 3.9x GPA and 170 LSAT, URM as well. Yeah, mine weren't on my transcript and were not counted for my UGPA by my school or LSAC. So that's why they requested themNotAGolfer wrote:Were your study abroad grades not included on your undergrad transcript? I have the same numbers, not URM, and I was interviewed in November and accepted in the first wave. Don't fret!del93 wrote:Interview for Columbia with 3.9x GPA and 170 LSAT, URM as well. +1 to everything here. yes.scoot456 wrote:After going through the interview, I really don't think that they're trying to be a blocker. They have legitimate questions about your application and they want to speak with you. Receiving an interview is only a good thing in that they did not have to take more time on your application if they were "unsure" or thought you're a "bubble candidate." They already have sufficient info to make their decision without speaking with you for 20 minutes. If anything, it felt more like gauging interest in Columbia and adding a few more details to your app before making a final decision.mm2368 wrote:interviews go to a wide range of people for a wide range of reasons; someone on here keeps suggesting that it's borderline or scholarship people who get it. that's not the case and you can get the receipts from the deans themselves. it's simply not true.del93 wrote:Interview for Columbia with 3.9x GPA and 170 LSAT, URM as well. On another note, if you look at past years, a majority of those interviewed did end up being admitted and only a few got waitlisted. Did not see any flat out rejects, but I'm sure they're out there.
This year, it really does look like they're interviewing a decent portion of their applicant pool and it appears almost all URMs are getting interviewed, except those above the medians/75ths.

Interesting as someone else said that awhile ago. Why do you think people are increasingly lying?wheathins wrote:I think the increase in the # of interviews may be due to an increase in the # of people pretending to be URM (especially lying that they're part Hispanic, etc).
I think they want to make sure you're actually an URM.

Also how would they be able to tell if your lying about being Hispanic? I have many friends who are half Mexican and I do not think you could tell whether they are MA just by looking at them.Keilz wrote:Interesting as someone else said that awhile ago. Re: Columbia c/o 2020 applicants (2016-2017)
pretty dangerous to even assume that you could determine whether one is URM by looking at them.
If Columbia is doing interviews for that reason, they should be ashamed.
sounds like a witch hunt to me. doubt people are lying in droves about that. not to mention, unless you also lied about URM status on every single form you've filled out from the age of 18, it's too risky to begin lying when applying to law school about that. the Bar will rip you to shreds for claiming you were non-URM in college but URM in law school.

The incentives for fudging your ethnic heritage are enormous (URM boost!) but it will be so hard to catch.

THIS IS PURE SPECULATION AND THERE IS NO REASON TO SUSPECT THIS AS ACTUALLY A LEGITIMATE ANSWER. THERE IS NO REASON TO SUGGEST THAT MORE PEOPLE ARE LYING ABOUT BEING URM THAN OTHER YEARS. C'MON
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
