If I remember correctly from last year, they pick a timeframe for when people applied/went complete/went UR (can't remember which), and on one day give everyone from that timeframe, WL admit or deny, a decision. So I wouldn't read any meaning into the status update.crosby813 wrote:This may be a dumb question (as this is all speculation anyway) but do theae 1/9 updates indicate good news, or simply that some news is likely coming?

The latter because I think Chicago sends waitlists/rejections on the same day as acceptances.crosby813 wrote:This may be a dumb question (as this is all speculation anyway) but do theae 1/9 updates indicate good news, or simply that some news is likely coming?

Yeah, does anybody know if a massive update is historically indicative of a mass wave of acceptances?crosby813 wrote:This may be a dumb question (as this is all speculation anyway) but do theae 1/9 updates indicate good news, or simply that some news is likely coming?

There will be mass acceptances, mass WL's, and mass rejections.

Last year, they sent out acceptances, rejections, and waitlists on the 10th.

Last year they did all the acceptances by phone call (ended ~5 PM central), then emailed the WL/rejected people. The year before that they took two days to do all the acceptances (and then came the WL/rejections).

Last year they waitlisted me by email and then, to make sure it had sunk it, they waitlisted me by email again the next day.Xifeng wrote:Last year they did all the acceptances by phone call (ended ~5 PM central), then emailed the WL/rejected people. Re: Chicago c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I honestly don't know whether this means acceptances or just decisions. I can't imagine that everyone who got a status update on here will be getting bad news. So many people who have already gotten into H or S were updated today and I doubt that Chicago would WL/ding all of them. Chicago's history of giving all the decisions on the same day makes me pause, though. I guess it's theoretically possible that all the updates are acceptances and the people who weren't updated either won't get decisions this round or won't get good news. But that's probably not accurate. It probably just means that Chicago will be letting us know soon, one way or the other.
Does anyone know how this worked last year? Did most people who were accepted get a status update right before? I doubt people outside TLS are neurotic enough to even keep track.

Re: Chicago c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
There weren't any status update changes day-of, iirc. There definitely wasn't any switch and then five minutes later a call or anything. It's pretty much, the calls start, you stare at your phone peeing yourself until 5 PM central, and hopefully you get a call from a 773 area code before then.amc987 wrote:I honestly don't know whether this means acceptances or just decisions. How do they inform you of waitlists/dings? Sorry if this was recently discussed and I missed it. By email? I assume they don't call and say "hi, we don't want you."

A 2nd updates is not an indicator that we'll be getting news tomorrow, correct?

From last year's thread all people (accept/wl/deny) got the update on 1/7 and heard on 1/10. The last status update just means you are gonna hear soon. If they do come out with the decisions tomorrow you will have to pray you get a phone b4 5-5:30pm CST. In most cases if you didn't get the call you know u were wl/rejected

Also to point out, last year the mass status update, 1/7, was a Friday, and the day decisions came out, 1/10, was a Monday. So maybe there won't be the gap this year there was last year due to no weekend?

Last year they didn't call in order of submission date, btw. I submitted mid-November and had one of the first calls.

From last year the 1/7 update seemed to be the 2nd for some and the 3rd for others and both groups received acceptances.
