I think it deserves to be asked. Honestly I'd rather them NOT admit me on April 30 when my other deposits are due and I have NO time to think about it because I'd be forced to withdraw. Wait a week. I'm ok with a Cinco de Mayo call.IngmarKurosawa wrote:Knowing that pretty much everyone's deposits are due 5/1 how can they in good conscience take that long?quadsbaby wrote:Looking back at last year's thread, there seemed to be a ton of people waiting all the way up until May 1st (with only one or two acceptances in the month of April). DLS just now
not sure I want to call... it doesn't really make a difference either way I suppose.

Yeah, I feel ya. Also DLS today (mid December submission). LSAT little lower than 25th percentile; GPA a bit higher than 50th percentile.jbudz wrote:DLS just now![]()

Any precedent for successfully emailing a DLS inquiry? I live abroad and can't really justify paying long distance fees just to receive bad news.

this exactly! depositing at another school doesn't require withdrawing from SLS if our decision is still pending right?DiniMae wrote:I think it deserves to be asked. Correct - you should be able to deposit and remain waiting for any schools that have yet to give you a final decision (you may also remain on waitlists).whompwhomp wrote:this exactly! depositing at another school doesn't require withdrawing from SLS if our decision is still pending right?DiniMae wrote:I think it deserves to be asked. Haven't checked in since I got my DLS last Friday but the letter came yesterday and it was indeed a ding.
Stanford is now the one school I've applied to that's rejected me twice. Guess our stars don't align.
Reminder of complete date and stats: Complete 1/27, two LSATs and #1 was a failboat but #2 > 25th (wrote addendum), GPA > 50th. Ph.D., LGBT, non-URM.

Just curious, but does LGBT status play any non-negligible factor for admissions? Not nearly as significant as URM, I assume, but how significant is it?WhoReviewedThis wrote:Haven't checked in since I got my DLS last Friday but the letter came yesterday and it was indeed a ding.

It is non-negligible. Not anywhere near being URM - it won't help you outperform your numbers by any significant fraction. But when there are two similar applicants, one LGBT and one not, the LGBT applicant may win out for diversity. I definitely got a LOT of recruitment stuff from schools that indicated my LGBT status should be a consideration, including a packet from Yale that specifically mentioned that they were seeking LGBT applicants with similar credentials and encouraging them to apply. (Not that it's gotten me into Yale, though.Blythe17 wrote:Just curious, but does LGBT status play any non-negligible factor for admissions? Quantifying the significance in my case at least is difficult, however - while I have slightly outperformed my numbers, it's probably more because of the Ph.D. than being LGBT.

At least with H, the JS1s meant if you hadn't gotten one and were within a few weeks of last year's decision wave, you pretty much knew it was a ding or WL. But Stanford's still calling a HANDFUL of people a day! It boggles my mind. I guess those are the luxuries you're entitled to at the top of the pile.Blythe17 wrote:Stanford, just freakin DLS me already!!

So I'm an early January complete and haven't heard a thing. Is there any basis for inferences at this point? Or is it still impossible to call.

I'm also an early Jan complete who hasn't heard anything. That you haven't heard back yet probably means that even though you weren't an auto-admit, you're still in the running. That being said, TCR seems to be that there's no way to really know. Hang in there!MustaphaMond wrote:So I'm an early January complete and haven't heard a thing. My letter was sent today, so I called ahead and was informed I'm on the wait list. So they are making some decisions this month. Very, very slowly.
Completed mid-December.
GPA: >75th
LSAT: 25th

^sorry to hear that Mack, hope you have some alternatives you're happy with.
DLS today as well, mid-Nov complete, at/above both medians.
Aaaaand that concludes the waiting for this cycle. I was going to defer anyway, so a waitlist is as good as a ding. It was disappointing to strike out at all three of the trinity, but I learned a lot from it I guess. Really hoping it's the KJD status that was hurting me, and (rly not) looking forward to reapplying. Good luck to the rest of you.
