Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Just held by Columbia. Significantly above both 75ths with T3 acceptances, so I'm assuming YP.. but ya know, that doesn't make it feel any better. Columbia would have had a good chance with big money against the T3s. Ugh.
On a related note, does anyone have guesses as to how Columbia differentiates between potential Butler/Hamilton applicants and YP candidates?

I'm in at a T10, but Columbia is still my #1. Is there any precedent for someone in a similar situation writing an LOCI? Could this help me?
Thanks!! Best of Luck to everyone else waiting!!!

Hey guys,
Complete 2/2 and am, like most of you, I'm sure, considering competing offers from other schools but am waiting to hear from Columbia - the last school pending for me.
A family friend who's a lawyer suggested writing the Columbia admissions office to inquire about the likely timeline of admissions since I'm trying to commit as early as possible to start working out financial aid/housing/et cetera. I feel like this is a little bit presumptuous and I'm not super comfortable with it. I also don't think I'm quite in LOCI territory since I was just complete about a month and change ago.
What are everyone's thoughts on this?
Thanks all and good luck to everyone still waiting

I think at this point it would not be a good idea to write them. On their website Columbia says to expect a decision by mid- April, and I have a feeling you'd just get that same response and run the risk of putting them off. Especially since you went only went complete in February, the only thing you can really do is to sit tight and wait it out.mac665 wrote:Hey guys,

ETA: At least you know the wait for some response (whether it be accept/deny/hold/reserve) will be relatively short. Days to weeks!

Yeah, you'll be getting a response within about a month and your turnaround will still have been much faster than most of the people here. I wouldn't harass them!

Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
I know someone who did this - basically he wrote that he has to make a decision within the next week or two due to the requirements for planning, housing, job for his spouse, etc and that if he didn't get a decision within that time frame he was gonna have to commit elsewhere despite Columbia being a top choice - It worked for him but just make sure to have clear reasons why - it doesn't sound like you do if you're not imposing a deadline but just asking when you're likely to hear back.mac665 wrote: A family friend who's a lawyer suggested writing the Columbia admissions office to inquire about the likely timeline of admissions since I'm trying to commit as early as possible to start working out financial aid/housing/et cetera.

Those that were held a few weeks back in that big wave, are you all writing LOCI's? Have you submitted yet?

Yeah, I figure it's worth it if you think you're a possible YP. I would guess that if they're gonna pick people off that are above their medians, they're going to go with the people they think are most likely to actually attend.pylon wrote:Those that were held a few weeks back in that big wave, are you all writing LOCI's? Possibly a dumb question, but who is everyone addressing their LOCIs to? And are you bothering to write the address since it's an online submission? Sorry for the neurotic post.
