I just think it's strange... I kind of think of scholarships as schools basically buying LSAT scores and GPA's, not as a temporary loan that's forgivable if you don't get a job. That having been said, since they explicitly state that the scholarship is given with this expectation, I don't think I could, in good conscious, accept the scholarship without intending to repay them eventually if I were able to do so. But I'm not willing to make such a commitment... I don't think. At least not right now.

Here I go over-thinking things again...

ETA: I suppose it does make sense though. After all, I would "only" be paying them about $5,000 a semester, and they need to fund that somehow.

Got an email saying that I wasn't awarded the Dean's scholarship, but they offered a $120,000 scholarship instead. Pretty exciting... and tempting.

ETA: They received my essay on January 7th.

Me too! What's up with that line at the bottom of the letter? Is that just an early plea for alumni donations?

Seriously that line would be a major turn off to me. It wasn't in my letter either, though. Seems really odd that they would put it in some but not in others.

Yes, they had it in the letters last year. And Cornell's not the only school that does this......

Yeah but conceivably they would have three years to make that pitch to you. Why alienate you before you have committed?

I think I was reading that Georgetown does it as well. And, I have no idea why they would do it. As someone whose job description includes email marketing, the choice baffles me.

I never got a Dean's Scholarship invitation, and I think I was somewhere around the first person admitted, meaning that they hadn't exactly run out by the time they got to me. This basically means Cornell isn't planning to offer me very much money, right? Theirs is among the least transparent of the scholarship programs at the top schools, so I honestly don't know whether my lack of DS invitation means I should give up hope or not.

Thanks! Yah the only reason I ask is that all my other apps (other than UMich) went complete withing 3 days or so from "received".

Yeah, I can't find anything much on TLS, so I just keep asking in the hopes that someone else has some ideas. And that makes sense that they'd only offer the invitations to folks above both medians. I guess I was just hoping this cycle would be a little more forgiving of splitters than in years past, in terms of both admissions and scholarships. If it does come down to convincing them I'd take them over NYU, I'll just talk about how little I like NYC and how little interest I have in living there as a poor law student.

Applied on 11/20, Complete 12/17, and another update today.

I forgot which schools do what. Does this mean decision soon, or do i have one more update before that?

I went complete 12/6 and haven't gotten a single update since. Bad news coming?
