Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Today I called the Mr. Dugas all the way from China. Yes, the email I got = acceptance.
I also cannot cannot CANNOT believe how generous UVA is being right now. Not only did Mr. Dugas immediately recognize who I was, he referenced many details in my personal statement and resume. After I got off the phone, he sent me an email with a VERY detailed description of various programs I'd be interested in at UVA based on what I'd said in my personal statement.
But here's the kicker...they are offering me a scholarship of $25,000 / year (I'm OOS), and my LSAT score is well below their median (166). I thought with my LSAT score, it was going to be tough battle breaking into the T14, much less getting half my tuition paid for at the #9 ranked law school in the nation. Crazy!!!!
Compared to all the other schools I've been accepted into so far, I'm being treated like a queen (and I cannot for the life of me figure out WHY). If UVA is habitually this nice to all its applicants and students, I might seriously consider going there. I hadn't really given UVA much thought because I thought with my LSAT score, it was a long shot. Maybe it's all this Southern hospitality I hear about so much, but I like it a lot.
Sorry for rambling, but I can't believe my luck right now.

UVA basically only has a complete status and nothing else. They changed what the status checker said to "under review" awhile ago but the gist remains the same. The status checker is still as unhelpful after you go complete and time to decision can be wildly unpredictable for non-ED apps.barneytrouble wrote:I just submitted today, how do I tell when I go complete/UR/etc?

I'm not sure what's going on here. People who have submit dates (well) before and after me have been accepted and rejected. 10/25 submit, and I haven't heard anything. I was thinking that I would get a rejection email this week with all the rest of them that had come out. Why take sooo long UVA

I preferred government so I wanted GULC over UVA, which is why I didn't ED UVA day one. Got waitlisted at GULC today. Should I even bother EDing UVA right now or is it too late in the cycle?

I don't think it is is ever too late to ED. They know that if they admit you they have you, so if you want UVA I would ED.ColtsFan88 wrote:I preferred government so I wanted GULC over UVA, which is why I didn't ED UVA day one. I didn't post when this happened, but ACCEPTED at the end of this week! Full-Tuition scholarship.
UVA is in my top 4 so I am SO HAPPY! Congratulations to the other recent admits.
(Application Submitted and Complete at the very end of October).

Ok thanks I think I'm gonna do it. Do people suggest writing a why UVA in addition to ED, or is it unnecessary?Zelda wrote:I don't think it is is ever too late to ED. Sorry I should have clarified, I did go ED... it says 15 days from when I go "complete" but whatis the status checker? Like how do I knowwhen it is complete?Nelson wrote:UVA basically only has a complete status and nothing else. Got a status checker 11/15 and I've been in review for a while. My numbers (169/166, 3.68) aren't that strong so I'm wondering if writing a LOCI or Why UVA would help at this point. I sort of did a Why UVA essay but that was incorporated into my PS so it wasn't as long as a seperate statement.

Every quartile, after taking out of the denominator every unknown grad, every "PI Fellowship" grad (10% of the class), every grad who is known to be working but did not report salary. So yes, out of (almost exactly) 60% of the class, every quartile of those students hit 160k. This is good, but you still gotta be top half of the class.chem wrote:Every quartile reported made 160k for the private sector
Even if you know this already, I feel compelled to spell it out for those who do not reflect on these things.

Yep! Thats why it seems like it may be big law or bust, since those that didnt report I assumed doc review. They are probably doing better, but its safer to assume thatCampagnolo wrote:Every quartile, after taking out of the denominator every unknown grad, every "PI Fellowship" grad (10% of the class), every grad who is known to be working but did not report salary.
