UW got killed in the newest NLJ placement data. Not even in the top 50 schools. I'm not really looking to work for a law firm, but I wonder if this means they're struggling to place in general, whether it's into PI, etc.

I wouldn't put too much stock in that. The schools between 50 and 30 range from 10-15% NLJ placement. When you have a graduating class of only about 170, it doesn't take many people to change the percentage going to NLJ firms from year to year by five points. I think last year UW was around 30 with about 15%. Also, there aren't many NLJ 250 firms in Seattle, but there are a few other mid sized firms in the region that pay 100k+ and hire UW grads. It seems like somewhere in the neighborhood of top 20-30% will allow you to be competitive for biglaw jobs, but if you really want biglaw, and nothing else will do, you shouldn't go to law school unless you get into a top 6 school.

Does anyone have a feeling for where most UW grads end up? Kind of work, work/life balance, pay, etc?

This thread is crazy looking at all the numbers of those rejected and/or wl'd. It's like UW is going for t14 or bust without offering any scholly money (yet at least) to those that will boost them...

I spoke with Mr. Le about the $$ angle and he said that they wait until a bit later on (MIddle to end of March, for example) before starting to throw money at people.

One thing that DOES concern me about UW is the condition of the LRAP - They only give out THREE (3!!!!!!) of the $5,000 loan checks to people who go into PI work. Three??????

Yikes...

In its inaugural year, the School will loan $5000 each to three people and will commit to giving an additional $5000 a year for two more years for a total commitment of $15,000 per participant.

Hopefully the "inaugural year" thing will not be a factor for me and more than three lucky contestants will get some LRAP. D:

It HAS to be yield protection or something like that. A lot of these applicants are definitely going to get in to higher ranked schools. I wouldn't be surprised if the only difference between these individuals and the people with similar numbers who were accepted is that the latter group is in state.

Yeah, and the really irritating part is, I'd have potentially actually gone. One of my best friends is in Seattle and I have a desire bordering on obsession to work in Victoria, BC someday.

People who were waitlisted, if you've emailed to stay on the waitlist, do you have a 2nd Decision Letter in the mailings section?

I applied to Oregon, as well. Oregon does not have a status checker... At first, I hated it, thought it was ridiculous, etc. Now, I'm starting to love Oregon. I very rarely worry about my app there, never obsess over the status checker, etc. Seeing as the UW status checker doesn't even work (see: letters received, still "In Review"), I'm not even sure why they have a status checker. UW is my top choice, but fading slowly as the ridiculousness continues. No rhyme or reason to some of the WL/reject applicants, and not a clue as to what is going on with the IR folks. I still love the idea of going to UW, it just makes me wonder what going to UW will be like if the first impression they make is this one...

I don't think so. They're letting people in with numbers higher than that at least... Maybe they're all felons?

So, has anyone who has DLS 2/15 under the Mailings section actually gotten their letter yet? It seems like a few 2/16's came in, but I can't recall a 2/15 having been received by anyone here yet. I understand that it takes time, but I'm just curious.
