What are you declining for? I'm just curious.LT7 wrote:A lot of ppl WL today. I'm an admit that's going to decline the offer and the 75K. Just sending out some hope. Good luck everyone.
Btw for what it's worth, after Emory, I withdrew from another school just cause I knew I liked Emory better, and they seemed to think their LS was better....then the new rankings came out, and it is LOL....at least rankings wise.

Don't get it. You went to a damn good UG, and that's above median LSAT. Did you do anything bad?wdp wrote:WL 167/3.65

Re: Emory 2011
Emory's a great school but their prestige and alumni contacts don't carry over to the California job market. At the time I applied, it wasn't a big issue but now that I want to practice in California it isn't the ideal school for me. And hey I'm glad Emory's a great fit for you. You're right, rankings shouldn't be the deciding factor.flexityflex86 wrote:What are you declining for? I'm just curious.LT7 wrote:A lot of ppl WL today. I was offered a spot on waitlist today with 157/3.63 (lol, are they rejecting anyone?). Do I have any shot at being admitted? Please, I would like some honest opinions about if it is worth my time writing an LOCI and other things that could make my application stronger...

I am in a similar situation. I got a WL with 163/3.2. I am extremely surprised as I assumed that my numbers dictated an auto ding. I plan to send out a LOCI but I don't know if there is anything I can do besides that.shmegory wrote:I was offered a spot on waitlist today with 157/3.63 (lol, are they rejecting anyone?). Re: Emory 2011
Hello TLSers – this is Ethan Rosenzweig, the Dean of Admission and Financial Aid, and as always, I appreciate your allowing me to post in this forum. We communicated a round of decisions today, which included wait list notification, and as such, this is a good time to discuss our wait list.
First, it is always tough for us when we are unable to admit so many highly qualified applicants in the first round of admission decisions. Trust me, I struggle along with the rest of our admission committee with many of the choices. However, because we can never predict perfectly how many students will enroll in a given year, we use the wait list with hopes of admitting as many great applicants as possible. For those of you who join the list, we will provide regular communication about your status so that you can make informed decisions about your options. I anticipate communicating more information with our waitlist candidates after our first deposit deadline on April 15th as well as our second deadline of June 1st.
Second, I know how easy it is to compare LSAT and GPAs to try to determine how admission offers are issued. I assure you that this is only one part of the evaluation. We take much time in evaluating applications because we read and discuss your essays, resumes, and letters of recommendations. If Emory is a community that interests you, I encourage you to send us a thoughtful and persuasive letter of continuing interest to give us more insight about you.
As always, we are always open to questions at admission@law.emory.edu. I hope you will contact us directly if we can be of assistance.

Re: Emory 2011
If this is true, and it certainly seems that way given the way this cycle has played out in terms of numbers, I have a lot of respect for Emory. I will probably not be remaining on the WL because of my desire to stay in Florida, but best of luck to everyone hoping to get in.EmoryAdmissionDean wrote:Hello TLSers – this is Ethan Rosenzweig, the Dean of Admission and Financial Aid, and as always, I appreciate your allowing me to post in this forum. Sorry about all of the WLs today. On the bright side, I know a bunch of people who got in off the WL in my class, and I think one even got a small scholarship (I vaguely remember her roommate telling me this, but I might be confusing her with someone else). So, there's definitely still hope.
Good luck everyone!!!

The only schools I've applied to where I can really determine if essays are read are Emory and Carolina. (Maybe some other schools do, but, it's harder to say). This does definitely give me warm fuzzies towards the schools.

Emory 2010 - 166 LSAT wall of death

Emory 2011

Looks like they let in a LOT more reverse splitters this year, which is why those with seemingly better LSATs/GPAs didnt get in.
Some schools want to improve lsat, some schools gpa, but its all basically a numbers game in the end.

Somehow, my 2.9 is still surviving. I don't expect it to last much longer though

I will be withdrawing despite really liking Emory and Atlanta. Don't think I could spend 3 years there knowing people with LSATs two points higher than mine with the same GPA got 75k while I got squat.

Re: Emory 2011
I think anything 170+ is probably YP.
I have absolutely no information or experience to back this up, but I feel like if you write a LOCI with a 170 and decent gpa and get off the waitlist, there's a strong chance you get a scholarship. I could be completely incorrect with that though.
