Are the numbers in your profile fudged? It seems highly unlikely that you would get in with those numbers, ED or not.

Thank you! The numbers in my profile do not include my most recent retake (172). I am also a VA resident, though I am not sure it means much.
edit: quoted the wrong post, sorry- my low post count is showing

Based on my understanding, your VA residency means quite a bit. At UVA, it's easier for a Virginia resident to be accepted. In any case, congratulations on being accepted!JIP3 wrote:JIP3 wrote:In at UVA! Got back to me in less than a week via phone call. Thrilled.

are there any in-state applicants with at least one number over median that haven't heard back yet? i feel like i'm the only instater with a 170+ that didn't get auto accepted. maybe i accidentally wrote "i hate uva law" in my PS.

The VA residency is the reason why you heard back so quickly after your retake, not why you got in. A 172/3.5 has a pretty decent shot at UVA in-state or not, but in-state they gobbled you up quickly. Congrats!

Thanks again! UVA has been my dream school for quite some time... only I just got engaged to a Michigan girl, so I have to consider that school also! That is assuming an acceptance there, of course, which is a pretty big assumption... Time to forum search "UVA vs Michigan"

Time to put up a poll "Dream school vs dream girl".JIP3 wrote:5ky wrote:The VA residency is the reason why you heard back so quickly after your retake, not why you got in. A 172/3.5 has a pretty decent shot at UVA in-state or not, but in-state they gobbled you up quickly. Congrats!

I don't think we need a poll to know what the overwhelming majority of TLSers would say to that...im_blue wrote:Time to put up a poll "Dream school vs dream girl".

Haha, yeah, not to mention I think it has already been done...
At least the two schools are pretty comparable (as I understand it), so it's not like I have to make any salient sacrifice in rank or job prospects

I feel like Michigan + fiancee > Virginia. That seems like a pretty easy one.Lurkster wrote:I don't think we need a poll to know what the overwhelming majority of TLSers would say to that...im_blue wrote:Time to put up a poll "Dream school vs dream girl".

Probably; I need to be accepted at Michigan to evaluate the two fairly. I nearly cried when UVA called, so I think it is safe to say I am a bit biased towards the school that has shown me some love.
Interesting side note: her dad, a lifelong engineer, quit his job last year and currently attends Michigan Law (wants to go into IP).

+1, since their rankings and reputations are very comparable.5ky wrote:I feel like Michigan + fiancee > Virginia. Eh, I would take most schools in the T14 + UT and UCLA with a fiance over almost any other school in the T14. Definitely peer schools. If I had a serious girlfriend in Austin, I'd take UT over any school aside from HYS, probably.

As someone at UVA now, I agree with both of these statements. A small change in rankings is not worth a big change in loneliness. You'd love it here, but you'd probably love being with the one you love more.VoidSix wrote:Eh, I would take most schools in the T14 + UT and UCLA with a fiance over almost any other school in the T14. In this particular case, Michigan is actually the higher-ranked school as well as having the personal factors on its side.vanwinkle wrote:managamy wrote:+1, since their rankings and reputations are very comparable.5ky wrote:I feel like Michigan + fiancee > Virginia.
