Dude that sucks. I really sincerely hope you get into some great schools. NYU is great, but there are some equally good schools out there for you. You got this... keep on truckin bro.

Hey, this was the only decision that could have brought $$$ considerations back into my cycle. Maybe now I'll have the opportunity to play Michigan and Northwestern off each other for a decent-sized grant. Silver lining, baby.rockchalk86 wrote:Dude that sucks. I want to believe this so bad, but I'm having a hard time doing so... god I wish a poster who has been here awhile would post an acceptance...lurk wrote:Long time listener, first time caller.

Does anyone see my dot on LSN? I updated my status but I don't see a new dot where my numbers should be.

No, I don't see it either. I also don't see your name listed under any of the 172s on the applicants page.

Damn you had a 172 and got rejected? I'm sure my rejection letter is coming in the next couple of weeks too.

Yeah I'm not sure what's going on. My profile is up and running, as you can see from the link in my TLS profile.5ky wrote:No, I don't see it either. I also don't see your name listed under any of the 172s on the applicants page.

It says user not verified that is why. You need to have the email verification resent and verify your profile for it to sdhow up in lists.LieutKaffee wrote:Yeah I'm not sure what's going on. Re: NYU 2010
I'm not sure why everyone assumes NYU is lying when they say they average. Their stated policy is that they average and therefore the application was a 162 3.62. Even if more weight may be given to the higher score, given their stated policy it doesn't makes sense to describe the application as a simple 172/3.6. I'm not saying that averaging would be appropriate (in my opinion it would be ridiculous given a 20 point gap) but I think the rejection shouldn't be seen as such a shock given the average score and the stated policy.LieutKaffee wrote:Ah, fixed. Re: NYU 2010
several people have been accepted to NYU with 171/172s with a score in the low 160s (averaging these two scores would make something way below NYU's 25th)of Benito Cereno wrote:I'm not sure why everyone assumes NYU is lying when they say they average. Re: NYU 2010
I think everyone shared this feeling going into the cycle. I don't recall specifics, but I believe there are a handful of people in this thread admitted with something like 164/170 or comparable improvements where the average looks like an almost-sure reject.of Benito Cereno wrote:I'm not sure why everyone assumes NYU is lying when they say they average. True, not as sure as a 162, so it's hard to say.

Also, there's no longer than reason for them to see the application as a 162/3.62 as you imply. For rankings purposes, they can now report the highest, which means the previous score only hurts your chances on a subjective level (i.e. "Hmmm, this has no effect on our rankings whatsoever, but what does it tell us about this applicant, especially in comparison to this 172 applicant over here who needed no retake").
I had hoped I was able to mitigate the red flag that was my previous score, but it seems I was not.

I'unno. I definitely heard somebody on their adcomm say repeatedly and explicitly that they do not average when there's a 6+ point gap.of Benito Cereno wrote:I'm not sure why everyone assumes NYU is lying when they say they average. Regardless of this outcome, the fact you've risen from a 152 to a 172 is still outstanding. You'll be getting GREAT acceptances. I say take the weekend, if you must, to mourn, but then come out swinging on Monday with some follow-ups to the other schools you're interested in.LieutKaffee wrote:Ah, fixed. So no, I offer you no condolences, only well wishes and congratulations on what appears to be a very promising future.

I think I'll submit Penn and Cornell tonight, lol. Using this feeling as an excuse to do nothing would probably make me feel like even more of a failure. Next week I might start seriously thinking about safety schools.Mr. Matlock wrote:Regardless of this outcome, the fact you've risen from a 152 to a 172 is still outstanding.
